Hardin-Simmons University East Texas State College Coach of Athletics Coach of Athletics SOCIAL STUDIES Because citizens of the United States should have a knowledge of their government, this department presents a course of study which trains the citizens and leaders of tomorrow to take an intelligent part in their government. World history gives the student an understanding of past civilizations, of more recent governments and of events in their relation to present-day conditions. In American history he acquires an interest in the history of his own country and its problems today. Texas history turns the student's attention even closer to home. Civics emphasizes to him his duties as a citizen. As the world grows smaller, the importance of social studies demands that the citizens of the United States have an understanding of world affairs. A STUDY HALLS Special tribute should be paid the study hall teachers of WFSH. Through their efforts the conscientious student has a quiet place in which he can finish his assignments or prepare for a test. The study hall di- rectors perform what may often seem a thankless task, but certainly it is a position important to students and to the administration of WFSH. I C . MRS. RUTH HARRIS, M.A. MRS. B.
