the machine age Senior High School, Wichita Falls' finest assembly line of education, is drawing near to the end of another successful year of mass-production. Soon it will send out into our industrial world some five hundred highly polished graduates, who have completed their basic education in what we call the Machine Age. i V So many of us take for granted the miracles of modern machinery that their appreciation is often overlooked. Because machines are essential in this era and because the Coyote staff wishes to recognize their impor- tance, the theme of our l955 yearbook is entitled, The Machine Age. There are many machines in this, our time., Everywhere we see them, everywhere we hear them. They are in our homes, our schools, our churches. Machines are in our streets, they fly over our heads, and they go under- ground. A country can become paralyzed if its machinery does not work. Can you imagine yourself living in a world without electrically run equip- ment and machines, without radios, telephones, television, and the million and one other things which we are accustomed to-things which we take for granted? Do you realize how wonderful an age we live in? Do you realize how much more we have, how much more comfortable we are than people used to be? Literally, the word machine means an apparatus consisting of inter- related parts with separate functions, which is used in the performance of some kind of work. Our school is in itself a machine. Within WFSH, there are many parts with separate functions which perform some kind of work. These consist of cogs, bolts, wheels, spokes, and even a few nuts. We consider the administrators our spokes, since they are the strength of the wheels and make it possible for them to turn. The faculty are the wheels which turn us toward a promising future. We, the students, are all the cogs, bolts, and nuts which go into making a mechanical device complete. Without all these parts working together, our machine, WFSH, would not be able to function. However, the most wonderful machine of all is the human being-the boy, the girl, the man, the woman. Created by God, it stands unsurpassed by any invention of man. Someone's human body, someone's human mind, someone's dream has been responsible for all the useful inventions which have been passed down to us. People must be educated and skilled in many ways in- order to handle all these amazing mechanical tools. The work for the human being does not stop. It goes on and on and on, and there is a place for everyone. Therefore, we have chosen as our theme for l955, The Machine Age. We hope that you, the students of Wichita Falls Senior High School, will catch a bit of reason in the theme. We hope that you will go forth through the coming years with your heads high, remembering that you are not a man-made mechanical device but that you are the dreamer, the artist, the inventor, a child of God, a maker of machines.
