cialcwlic invading The different departments of this school have a variety of interesting subjects awaiting the exploring minds of some seventeen hundred scholars. No doubt the largest enrollment in any subject in WFSH is English. Four years are required for graduation because learning the use of English is the most important factor in developing the talents of any student regardless of the profession he may enter. This department sponsors the Coyote News and the Coyote yearbook. The social studies department provides students with a knowledge of government which will be a benefit to them in a government career, or it will help them to become useful citizens. ln the mathematics department are courses necessary for students desiring to become scientists, astronomers, physicists, engineers and architects. ln other fields, too, math plays a big part. Spanish and Latin comprise the language studies of this school. Each is important in its own particular way. Because of our small world and our friendliness with Spanish-speaking countries, Spanish is valuable. Latin is important because it gives background preparation for future doctors, lawyers, linguists and pharmacists. Not to b overlooked is WFSH's exceller art department, where a studer may lay a foundation for a caree in advertising, ceramics, painting textile design, interior design c industrial design. Our musi department in both vocal an instrumental training is rated hig in the state. The choirs ar well-known in this city's servic clubs and in contest tournament: The Coyote Band is popular fc its performances in parades an at half-time activities of footba games. Learning to speak correctly is just one of the things emphasized in WFSH's speech department. Courses are offered in debate, radio, dramatics and platform speaking, vital subjects for many students whose chosen careers call for good speaking. WFSH prides itself in having a curriculum filled with practical electives. Among these is the home economics department which teaches girls to cook, sew and prepare themselves for later years in their own homes. The business courses in the commercial department, typewriting, shorthand and bookkeeping, aid students planning secretarial or general office work. Not to be overlooked are this school's part-time training programs which work effectively through distributive education and diversified occupations courses. Two very helpful electives are shop and mechanical drawing, providing training for boys regardless of their planned careers. ln this field is stagecraft, a class which supplies the sets for the dramatic productions and social events. The Reserve Officer Training Corps, now in its second year, is fast gaining a position of importance among the other activities. Snider Library with ninety-nine periodical subscriptions and over l2,000 volumes on the shelves is one of the big reasons for WFSH's high scholastic standing. The study halls provide students free periods of preparation and opportunity to use the library. Healthful student activities are provided through the girls' and boys' physical education departments. Their importance is shown by the fact that three years' credit is required for graduation. With the completion of the new gym this part of WFSH's school life will be much more important. With this wide choice of courses directed by on excellent faculty, there is good reason for Wichita Falls Senior High School's good scholastic rating.
