RIDER, Principal of l.Uichita Falls Senior High School i BH., Baylor University, fTl.Fl., Brown University The very word TRHVEL has its fascination for everyone-young and old alilze, the former group thinlzing of travel chiefly in its relation to the present and the Future, and the latter re- calling vivid memories ot the past and thinlzing in common with the younger group ol the present and the future. Q ' The concepts ol time and distance have substantially changed within the last few years. Persons now of school age have, for the most part, gained their lznowledge of the progressive stages of the modes of travel through channels ol learning other than personal experience, but just think of the thrill that came to the middle-aged persons now living when they, for the first time, even saw an automobile or an airplane, to say nothing of riding in one. The economic, social, and educational opportunities, so tar superior today over those of former days, are our heritage greatly because ot the automobile. may we live still happier, more experiencelul, and richer lives through modern and im- proved methods of travel, but in so doing, let us safeguard our lives and those ol our neighbors by using, and not abusing, the privileges and the opportunities that the automobile brings.

Some go on trains across the land, some ride in automobiles along gray and blacl: ribbons of asphalt, some go in airplanes which sail as giant birds through the blue of the shy, some go by ships which plow the seas, others just go. To some, travel is a way to talze a vacation, to others, it is an alluring and most interesting way to see, learn, and add to that culture which is lznown in boolzs as education. To each of them it brings the thrill of new experiences or the tranquillity which abides long alter he returns to his own home. . ,li ,
