SCIENCE Signposts To The Future, That's Science Science is a sign--a sign of the times. It leads students to the dis- covery of better Ways of living through the study of biology, chem- istry, physical science, and phy- sics. These students may Well be the scientists of tomorrow. Biology, taught by Mr. Hulett, probes the function of living organ- isms in the plant and animal Worlds. The microscope opens new vistas to the Neophyte. Chemistry classes, taught by Mr. Hulett and Mr. Holmes, are aimed at developing the under- standing that all things can be broken down into their elemental parts. Physical science and physics ex- pose the students to the laws and principles of the universe, so that they may read the sign posts to a better life. I tudents, do you understand the problem, now? , WW- W .,- 'Wx Chemistry means a lot of thinking. I could not have missed that many! 19

MATHEMATICS Mathematics Opens The Way To Gther Fields Today, in the complex World of business and industry, employers demand Workers versed in the skills and technical know-how that are so important to continued progress. Mathematics is a learned skill essential to a knowledge of mea- surement and relationships, and to the development of the reasoning process. A staff of skilled instructors-- Mr. Dutton, Mr. Holmes, and Mr. Townsend--help students to probe the vast World of mathematics in preparation for other subject fields. The varied courses offered--gen- eral math, algebra, geometry, and senior math--are programmed to aid all levels of mental aptitudes. The prospective housewife might seek only general math. The en- gineering student Would include all of the higher math. Math, thus becomes the key to the student's future role in society. I CANNOT understand that problem! NoW to explain it in an easier way! These freshmen cannot figure out who discovered algebra. 18

PHYS ED AND ' it DRIVER'S EDUCATION Mental And Physical Health Create The Working Citizen Mental and physical health is important to the Well-being of every American citizen and to the progress and strength of his nation. Wichita county High School has a four-year physical education pro- gram aimed at making the student physically fit and mentally alert. The program is coordinated around student needs by three physical ed- ucation teachers--Mr. Dutton, Mr. Easterday, and Mrs. Nicholas. An alert mind and conditioned reflexes are a requirement of the safe driver. Mr. Williams seeks, through the driver's education pro- gram, to create the alert driver Who is conditioned to recognize his responsibilities to his fellow man When he is behind the Wheel How much longer, Mr. Homan ?' V I would hate to meet up with him in a dark IS that 3 quart low, Mr, Williams? alley! 20
