MATHEMATICS Mathematics Opens The Way To Gther Fields Today, in the complex World of business and industry, employers demand Workers versed in the skills and technical know-how that are so important to continued progress. Mathematics is a learned skill essential to a knowledge of mea- surement and relationships, and to the development of the reasoning process. A staff of skilled instructors-- Mr. Dutton, Mr. Holmes, and Mr. Townsend--help students to probe the vast World of mathematics in preparation for other subject fields. The varied courses offered--gen- eral math, algebra, geometry, and senior math--are programmed to aid all levels of mental aptitudes. The prospective housewife might seek only general math. The en- gineering student Would include all of the higher math. Math, thus becomes the key to the student's future role in society. I CANNOT understand that problem! NoW to explain it in an easier way! These freshmen cannot figure out who discovered algebra. 18

1' Y' Are these boys building their dream house? :win MANUAL ARTS Students See Signs In Manual Arts For Careers In Life Manual arts is a part of the gen eral education which is offered at Wichita County High School. This department realizes that not only the challenge must be offered, but teaching conditions, including the classroom and shop atmosphere, must be congenial so the student can accept the responsibility. Woodworking is intended to reflect the growing, expanding in- terest in wood and woodworking skills. Mechanical drawing teaches a universal language by means of which the form, size, and finish of an object can be described. Woodworking and mechanical draw- ing are both under the direction of Mr. Leuszler. Vocational agricul- ture, under the direction of Mr. Hamilton, gives the boys an opportunity, after appropriate advanced education, to return back to the farm. SCIENCE Signposts To The Future, That's Science Science is a sign--a sign of the times. It leads students to the dis- covery of better Ways of living through the study of biology, chem- istry, physical science, and phy- sics. These students may Well be the scientists of tomorrow. Biology, taught by Mr. Hulett, probes the function of living organ- isms in the plant and animal Worlds. The microscope opens new vistas to the Neophyte. Chemistry classes, taught by Mr. Hulett and Mr. Holmes, are aimed at developing the under- standing that all things can be broken down into their elemental parts. Physical science and physics ex- pose the students to the laws and principles of the universe, so that they may read the sign posts to a better life.
