COMMERCE Commerce Aids Everyone Commerce can be used in all fields of life. Students may prepare for such fields in high school by taking courses in typing, bookkeep- ing, shorthand, or general business. The lubricant of business is a competent office force. The com- merce department specializes in courses designed to aid the budding business secretary or accountant. Even the farmer or housewife may utilize these courses in making better budgets for the year or in necessary correspondence. The student planning for college will find these courses valuable as he takes lecture notes in shorthand, or as he types a formal report. Science is de- fined as knowledge attained through study or practice. Social science at WCHS is di- rected into broad areas to help the student understand his role in his society. The student may study ec- onomics to become wiser in the use of his money. He may study soci- ology to better understand the Why of his behavior in his society. He may study world history, American history, and Constitution so that he may become more aware of the heritage upon which his nation is built. He may through the study of the social sciences become more aware of his responsibility to his society as regulated by the laws established by forefathers and by his own contemporaries. FINE ARTS Students in Fine Arts Show Signs of Satisfaction The students at WCHS have the opportunities to paint, to sing, or to play an instrument in the fine arts department. This program enables the student to enjoy his leisure time, While at the same time, he can earn credits. Mrs. Davis focuses the hand, the eye, and the mind in a pattern so that the student can locate his artis- tic talent in oil painting, tempra painting, or poster designing. Under the vocal department, the student may develop an interest in music Whether it be solo Work or be a part of a large choral group. I-le may even be selected to sing with the Chorves, a vocal group known for their excellence. Mr. Gale is the director for these groups. Mr. Wilken will help the student choose from any number of musical instruments. During his high school years, the student may join the con- cert hand, the marching band, or one of the smaller instrumental groups.
