Mr lf a Marc Anderson shoots for another Spartan score Coach Carter gives on the spot pep talk. Randy Storms scores to opponents dismay. Stan Peters contemplates team mates' moves. For the fourth time in four years, both Collegiate basketball teams, A and B, had to adjust to a new coach, thus, it took sev- eral weeks for them to get used to a new coaching philosophy. Adjusting to the new coaching techniques still left several problems, a major one of which was the lack of height. The Spartans were outsized overall in almost all of their games. The fact that almost every weekend saw two games and that much travelling was necessary may have taken some of the Spartan steam, as well. In the last weeks of the season, the teams made trips to Kansas City, Omaha, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and the Dallas area, plus the SPC tournament in Dallas after the season. The final varsity record, 9-12, doesn't reflect the full effort of the team. The season started out slowly, with the alumni's beating the Spartans for the first time. From then on, the play was uphill. There were many disappointing moments as the Spartans found that their rallies fell short against many good teams, as shown by the fact that five of the losses were by three points or less, plus one overtime loss. The SPC saw a win and two losses. One loss was by one point, the other was in overtime. The B-team had trouble putting a complete team effort to- gether and finished with a 6-9 record. Maybe one of the best aspects of the season is the promising outlook towards next year. Most of the future varsity picked up plenty of experience and maturity while putting in a lot of paying time for the B-team season past. twenty-six . . Spartan moves to gain posession.

BOYS, TENNIS SEASON SUCCESSFUL The 1972 Collegiate Boys' Tennis Team was, as in years past, young and inexperienced. The top six players included three Fresh- men, two Sophomores, and one Junior. Early in the season the netters practiced before school. Even at early hours, there were large turnouts and the boys took their prac- tice very seriously. They gained the necessary experience as they par- ticipated in many matches. This year's team played more matches than any other team in the school's history, playing two or three matches each week. The team's travels took them to Kansas City and Austin, Texas. In the last invitational, Collegiate finished in a tie for eighth. In a 5a-4a state tournament Collegiate finished ahead of all city league teams, with the exception of Southeast. The future outlook for the team is very bright with many Junior Varsity players moving up, and four new tennis courts being added. The Collegiate Tennis Team is looking forward to the best season of any team in the history ofthe school. Spartan concentrates on service. f K' r' 1' if 'Y' ff, I, ff: 1 ffl f I ,f f .1 .. f 1 XJ It 4' 1 f .
