Mr lf a Marc Anderson shoots for another Spartan score Coach Carter gives on the spot pep talk. Randy Storms scores to opponents dismay. Stan Peters contemplates team mates' moves. For the fourth time in four years, both Collegiate basketball teams, A and B, had to adjust to a new coach, thus, it took sev- eral weeks for them to get used to a new coaching philosophy. Adjusting to the new coaching techniques still left several problems, a major one of which was the lack of height. The Spartans were outsized overall in almost all of their games. The fact that almost every weekend saw two games and that much travelling was necessary may have taken some of the Spartan steam, as well. In the last weeks of the season, the teams made trips to Kansas City, Omaha, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and the Dallas area, plus the SPC tournament in Dallas after the season. The final varsity record, 9-12, doesn't reflect the full effort of the team. The season started out slowly, with the alumni's beating the Spartans for the first time. From then on, the play was uphill. There were many disappointing moments as the Spartans found that their rallies fell short against many good teams, as shown by the fact that five of the losses were by three points or less, plus one overtime loss. The SPC saw a win and two losses. One loss was by one point, the other was in overtime. The B-team had trouble putting a complete team effort to- gether and finished with a 6-9 record. Maybe one of the best aspects of the season is the promising outlook towards next year. Most of the future varsity picked up plenty of experience and maturity while putting in a lot of paying time for the B-team season past. twenty-six . . Spartan moves to gain posession.

JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL EIGHTH FORM BASKETBALL TEAM QL. TO RJ Coach Graf, Craig Slawson, Walter Berry, Eric Chesky, Chuck Trombold, .Ieff Mills, Doug Drevets, Cal Cofer, Lyndon Hendry. The sixth grade team this year did not do as well as it would have liked, the season record was 2-4. The team is looking forward to a better season in 72-73. The seventh and eighth grade junior varsity teams finished their 71-72 season well, with the seventh grade team ending undefeated. The outstanding rec- ord can be attributed to a combination of an outstand- ing coaching staff, and to skills in shooting, ball han- dling, and rebounding. The coaches for both teams, as well as for the sixth grade team, where Jim Graf and Roger Carvallo. Each weekend they helped the teams, both in victory and defeat. The eighth grade team ended with a 6-2 season, which was not as well as they had done as seventh graders, however, they finished second in the league, missing first place by one free throw. Several of the eighth grade players should be an asset to the Varsity team next year. tw? 12... ' e , gf ,E gf W . .
