VARSITY FOOTBALL In its eighth season of varsity football, Colle- giate played nine games ending with a 3-6 rec- ord. Under the new head coach, Bill Carter, and i his assistant, Coach Duke, the Collegiate team proved skillful and determined, although ham- pered with injuries of key players. The Spartans proved their strength by winning over Hardtner 34-6, and Thayer 42-14 in their first two games. ., t 1 A tt 'L -we .W 1 ff:-1 .--L Collegiate was not up for Galva, and was de- ggsg ,ggi ,F 2 cf .. ' -T ' feated 40-20. The team then travelled to Quene- Qrs it mo where, after playing a poor first half, they came back strongly in the second half only to lose 20-12. In the next two games, the Spartans played below par, first losing soundly to Nor- wich 68-24, and then losing a close game to LeRoy 20-16. The next week Collegiate bounced back and fought a fierce battle against Galva, losing a close game 20-14. The game with Bra- man proved disappointingg the Spartans did not play with their usual spirit, and as a result, were beaten 42-12. The Spartans put everything to- gether for their final game with LeRoy. The of- fense and defense performed equally well, and together they produced a 54-30 victory. lt was a great way to wrap up the season. Next year Collegiate has hopes for an even better season, and is looking forward to playing some ll man football next season.
