To you, who have devoted your teaching years to helping young people, we dedicate this book. Your understanding guidance has endeared you to countless students. You've helped young people with their social, emotional and physical problems. Your friendly concern for others has made you rich in friend- ships. You were born and have lived most of your life in Whittier. You graduated from Whittier High School and Whittier College where you were a track star and football letterman for four years. You began teaching at Whittier High School in 1929 and have remained ever since. Your first teaching position here was that of varsity football line coach. Since that time you have proven yourself the outstanding cross-country coach in the state, having won ten varsity league chan?- pionships in the past eleven years. You are an expert on health and nutrition and the director of the Modified Physical Education Program for boys. Your unselfish devotion to young people does not stop with Whittier High School, but also extends into the community, as evidenced by your appointment as Chairman of the Park and Recreation Commis- sion for Whittier City. In all your years here, you have set an example for your students in adhering to upholding the Cardinal Creed. Citizenship, scholarship, companionship and service. Whittier High School thanks you, MR. TOM PHELAN.
