' ' ACKNOWLEDGMENTS ln The Tall of The year, I946, This book, The I947 Cardinal, was sTill a pipe dream. The now worldly sTaTT was sTill green, and everyone wandered in a daze, sTill dreaming of summer Tun. All Too soon, The days began slipping by, and The monThs wandered inTo winTer. Like a slap oT cold waTer, we realized ThaT The yearbook was sTill in our minds, noT on paper. TighTening our belTs, we seTTled down Tor a long siege. ElecTions came TirsT. EdiTor was chosen, and The sTaTF spIiT up inTo Tive diTferenT secTions. The opening secTion was worked ouT by The ediTor and valuable Jackie Jenkins. Joyce Lusk and RoberTa Orr shared honors as senior class secTion ediTors as did Rosanna SmiTh and Beverly Saunders on The undergraduaTe secTion. The clever and original ideas displayed in The campus secTion were The children of BeTTe Schoff and her hard working campus Tour: Barbara Fry, Joann Singles, Diane Criswell, and CaTharine Weskirchen. Boys' sporTs secTion presenTed a high wall oT diThculTies, buT greenhorn Frank The ArTisT Ray, Ralph Nieblas, and Maxine Funk mounTed iT wiTh ease. Jolly Julie GilberT and Joyce Phegley combined To produce a well planned girls' sporTs secTion. Our gay nighT liTe and acTiviTies were worked on by Marilyn WiTTersheim and Sue Dawson. Molly Madden, BeTTy Osborne, Joan Archer, and PaT McNeilly all cooperaTed To puT TorTh a new and original ad secTion. Making us especially proud were our Three sTudenT phoTographers, Josh Wilson, Bill Harrison, and Jim Kemp, who spenT hours oT Their spare Time in The dark room. Overseeing all, Miss Mariorie Jones puT TorTh a Tremendous iamounT of Toil. For ouTside help we would like To Thank Mr. BuTler, whose precious picTures of i887 WhiTTier are shown in This book, Mr. Andy Cummings of BarTon's sTudio Tor The Tine senior picTures: Mr. PeTerson of PeTerson's Engraving Company Tor The prompT reTurn oT engravings: Mrs. Owens oT The STaTioners CorporaTion: and Mr. Van Velzer and The boys of The Cardinal PrinT Shop. All of These people were responsible Tor your book. Each one was a neces- sary parT of an oTherwise incompleTe whole. For Them, l would like To exTend The wish ThaT you have enioyed reading The book as much as They have enjoyed working on iT. JOAN McNEILLY Cardinal EdiTor ' IS9 ' ? The years have passed, the fads are different, but remnants of former years still remain with us. The seniors still sponsor Senior-Alumni Day, the juniors still hold the annual Junior-Senior Promenade, and the freshmen and sophomores have their dance and party. Even if some of our events were the same, if the past year seemed no different from the rest, to us it was changed, for WE were the ones to enjoy the year '46-'47 . . . it belonged to us . . . it was our year! 1887 HHH 1947 WHITTIER CCLLEGE f L Herbenpr Preswdenf F. All important in our school life, our clubs and organizations have offered every kind of activity and entertainment tor all occasions. Banquets, Christmas parties, annual plays . . . our old clubs sponsored these. New clubs have provided fas- cinating hobbies in photography, radio work, and agri- culture. School spirit reached a new high in '46-'47 as was proved by our roaring pep rallies, crowded dances, and wonderful noons in the quad. How did they rate with you?
