THIS IS THE S M159 9 GEM 1 WHITTEMORE HIGH SCHOOL MOMENTS TO REMEMBER . .M ... -...-v .. -mw - Leo Morman Superintendent SUPER! NTENDENT 'S MESSAGE Graduates of '59 In our time of outer space thoughts of travel, inter-con- tinental missels, and atomic motivation we have found our- selves in a fast moving society, a society that is de- manding more and more from us as the days go by. Some of you graduates will go on to places of higher ed- ucation, in one field or another, others will go into the great variety of different trades. Regardless of what field of endeavor you choose for your life's occupation, enter into it with that determination that will bring you to the top in satisfaction and a job well done. Be alert and stand for and defend our way of life. Help at all times to make our land a better place to live. Be fair and square with your fellow man and in doing these things you will have a much fuller and richer life. Leo Morman Superintendent Remember that day, years ago, when you took us by the hand and led us into that great bui- lding? Few of us realize that the steps we climbed that day could lead to such memorable events. Now we have climbed these steps for the last time; the second flight looms before us. As we recall the past, happy memories come to us; but none happier than our thoughts of you, mom and dad. You gave us the strength and courage to face the first flight of stairs. Few of us can forget your love, guidance, and your patience. Without your help we could never have advanced this far in becom- ing good useful citizens. To show you in a small wa our gratitude and appreciation, we, the Senlor Class of 59 dedicate this, the 1959 Annual to you, our parents. DMINISTRATION Mr. J.w. Sykes B.Sy, Des Moines U.' They were Judy Baas, Donald Meyer, Bill Meyer, Jim Nichols, Dana Pettit, and John Vaudt. Within a few weeks we were initiated by the Juniors which wasn't just quite as bad as we had expected. On August 27, 1956, eight sophmores returned to W. H. S. Charles Baker had joined our class. We were glad to be able to set and watch the frightened freshies. During the first semester Loveda Ewoldt dropped out. Our instructors for this year were Mr. Morman, Mr. Jenson, Mr. Conrad and Miss Stratman. Our class sponsor was Mr. Jensen. On August 26, 1957, we started our third year of high school. Loveda Ewoldt rejoined our class and John Christen- sen also joined our class. This year we really thought we were getting something accomplished. We gave a Junior-Senior Banquet at the Plantation and our theme was Oriental Holi- day: We had several class members that participated in ex- tra-cirricular activities. Our instructors for this year were Mr. Morman, Mr. Jenson, Mr. Conrad, Miss Stratman, and Miss Johnston. Our class sponsor was Miss Johnston. On August 25, 1958, nine proud seniors entered W. H. Our class included Judy Baas, Dana Pettit, Loveda Ewoldt, Don Meyer, Jim Nichols, John Vaudt, Chuck Baker, John Christensen, and Bill Meyer. Qur instruc- tors for this year were Mr. Norman, Mr. Sykes, Mr. Conrad, Mr. Jensen, Mr. Morey, and Mrs. Riedinger. Here on May 15, 1979, we are reoorting from the vast observatory at the station. As we enter this huge buil- ding we see before us a magnificent telescope. It is the highest powered telescope ever invented, and it will enable us to look into the lives of the Senior Class of 1959. As we look through towny the Chevrolet Garage comes into focus where we see Chuck Baker as the head mechanic there. We now swing our telescope out to the Pacific Coast. Here we see a group of fine men marching down a football field. As we look closer we see that it is the U.C. L. A. bando The director of the band is Bill Meyer. He also has a lovely wife and three children. Also in California, located in Beverly Hills, stands a bea- utiful mansion. It is the home of one of the most popular stars in show business.
