MAROON AND GOLD 1964 published by the students of Whitney Point Central School Whitney Point, N. Y. 1 FOREWORD To everyone the eagle stands as the king of birds. He possesses extraordin¬ ary beauty and intelligence. The Yearbook Staff has chosen the Golden Eagle for their theme as a re¬ minder to all readers that, like the Yearbook itself, they should aim for the utmost in everything they do. As evidence of this fact it is inter¬ esting to note that Edmund DeWan, a 9th grader in 1946, suggested the Eagle as a possible mascot for Whitney Point Cen¬ tral School. He too had high ideals, just as everyone who follows the Golden Eagle in Whitney Point Activities works toward maintaining a goal for them¬ selves . The Yearbook Staff feels that through its collection of the years events it has compounded a lasting memory of the students ' and faculty ' s attainment of beauty and intelligence as exemplified by the Golden Eagle. Plan groundwork for the yearbook was laid in September but production really began to get under way after ESSPA convention delegates returned from their convention in Syracuse in October. To raise extra money for the yearbook, staff members sold postcards of the two schools. The postcards were taken by Aerial Surveys of Rochester, New York. Pictures for the yearbook were taken by Chenango Stu¬ dios and a group of student photograph¬ ers. Business affairs were transacted with Frank A. West Co. and Kingsport Press for some 775 yearbooks. ESSPA delegates, Cathena Lynch and April Quar¬ ella, returned from the Syracuse Confer¬ ence with a trophy awarded to the Point¬ er Weekly for first place on the editor¬ ial page of mimeographed school papers. Papers were judged during the summer of 1963 for this contest. Professor David Norton of the Syracuse University School of Journalism has continued to send aids and criticisms for the staff. Issues of the paper from April to December have been submitted to the Columbia School Press Association Contest for rating again this year. Hopes are high that the Pointer will be a two time trophy winner this year. POINTER WEEKLY Mr. W. D. HeIt - Adv., C. Lynch-Co-Ed., Mr. L. Frechette-Adv. Pointer Weekly REPORTERS SEATED: P. Samson, M. Attractive Laurie Hunting- ton, a sophomore who is majoring in psy¬ chology, comes home expecting to find a normal, well adjusted family. She is quite upset when she discovers a bunch of psychological knots. Laurie seems quite confident that her college courses in psychology will enable her to strai¬ ghten out her family ' s tangled lives. She convinces everyone that they must find their energy peak. Her family a- grees to go along with her scheme for a while. Finally they get fed up with the whole idea and decide to teach her a lesson. In the end Laurie prefers her family as they are. But, Mother the doorbell usually works. But ladies, the Zombrowski Ink Blot test is apt to be pretty truthful. 76 Junior Class Play March 30,1963 Keep your paintbrush to yourself- you crook. See? LIBRARY CLUB Library Club members act as assistants in the library to help extend its services to the school. In addition to rendering technical services in the library, the members have a chance to explore new books and develop special abilities. Club training and business meetings are held during activity period each Friday. Each month, after school, a social hour with book talks is scheduled, besides a Christmas Party and picnic at the end of the year. The annual trip to a univer¬ sity campus is planned around the visit to its 1ibrary. AUDIO VISUAL CLUB Audio Visual Club, organized several years ago, has two purposes in mind. One is to provide an opportunity for High School boys to learn the basic operations and set ups involved with audio-visual equipment. The second pur¬ pose is to act as aid to the teachers in delivering the equipment and operating it. One goal of the club this year, through the showing of two movies, is to buy new equipment in order to broaden the A. V. program. LIBRARY CLUB-MRS. HELEN WIGHT SEATED: B. Judson, D. Nichols, K.
