CLASS OF 44 THEIR HISTORY en e first met thls class of '44, they were made up of Esther Bull, Mary Lou Ger en Barbara Jenks, Betty Murphy, Betty Jean Walters, Bl ll Cross Harvey Gaylord, Bob Murphy, Blll Nlchols and Bernard Strong, not very many but enough to start a somewhat brllllant class of morons In Thlrd grade Marcella McMahon was welcomed Into our moronic mudst They went merrily on theur way, up the stony road of educatlon untul Fufth grade One day a surprise awauted them They were Informed that they were to move om thelr lutt chlcken coop to the present Whitney Polnt Central School There to greet them was a bunch of klds, gathered from the nearby country schools They were ma e up of Melvun Brooks, Burt Ellerson, Donald Knapp, Ruth Brown, Shlrley Brown Betty Flahavan, Rose Hand Ralph Probert, Milan Zlpay, Betty Lamb, Gladys Neubauer, Aluce and Helen Pogorzelskl Eunlce ROQGVS, Dennis Quarelua, and Euuzabefn Walter WI h thls addltlon, they made up a rather dull looking but unterestlng class of Flfth grade In their sixth year they welcomed Charles Standlsh and Juanlta Potter to their cozy group The next year of school was undoubtedly the most excltung of all They were untued from thelr teacher's apron strungs and let loose to wander lover unexplored oppor tunltyl F r hat else could y u call lt, lf not opportunlty, to wander for the Furs time through open doors to rooms where huge books ann unknown teachers challenged you Another newcomer was there, Greydon Ellison, to help them probe unto the mysterues of newly found duscoverues Then wlth heads held hugh they went lnto Eighth grade where they were joined by George Gates when they graduated from Eighth grade they went Into Nlnth wlth an addutuon of flve new puplls, Bob and Shlrley Woodward, Helen Thatcher, Aldlne Q all, and Cralg th t of Freshman ln thelr Sopho more year they welcomed Dorus Dennlson and Roy Shear, but Dorus left them be ore e I the ear they gave the r flrst Important dance, 'The Sophomor year was up Dur ng y Sweater Hopn It was a huge success and made them feel pretty Important when they I h ame a ulred the name Junlors they were yolned by Harry Norberg, Dorls Denn son, w o c CQ back from Cortland, Marcella McMahon who had moved to Binghamton durlng the summer, h J lor la s Antlc Spring came back to joln them ln January The Harvext Dance, T e un p y , , and Mother Who Went Away, and the Junlor Prom were outstandlng events sponsored by the ass t at e Carl Arnold left to yoln the Coast Guard h when the group flnally achleved the hlgh and mlghty name of Seniors, Carol Burg 97 and Rudolph Palzer yolned to make up the Senlor Class as o today Durung the year, the class presented Eygg Sunce gig, a three act play about hlgh school newspaper and lts fun lovlng staff of hlgh school students Earller ln the year, they presented the vlctory Stamp Shlndlg, to whlch the admlsslon was a war stamp only In March the Seniors heard the long awalted news that they would be able t go on a trlp It was declded that the Detrolt Boat trlp was the best bet and the dates were set Everyone began plannlng and worklng on Ideas for lt Harry Norberg graduated ln January and was acc p Ellerson qult and yolned the Navy Qulte suddenly Donald Knapp and Charles Standush graduated and left us ln Aprul and entered A S lf H8mllf0f1 Colle 9 when the history of the Senlors closed, they were marchlng down the alsle of oppor t nlt to graduatlon And thus we leave them to go on their way, some to war, others to U Y defense factorles and to other work for vlctory e ted unto the Naval Alr Corps Burt Page 30 l Wh w k ! ! l . fr : le . d ' 1 I 7 1 , ' - . o w o ' t Q I U Edmlster. ln thls grade they came upon a new name, a . - ' ' f th . l ' e Jr. Cl h y ar.
