This year's J.V. was a very young team. The squad consisted of 26 playersg 14 freshmen and 12 sophomores. In their first game the Cats were defeated by the Italy Gladiators 24-O, but came on strong in the second game beating Lorena in a close fought battle 16-14. The Cats then faced China Springs who downed Whitney 35-0. The following week the Wildcats faced the Alvarado Indians who would prove to be the Cat's toughest challenge. Thelndian's overtookthewildcats 46-0. Entering district play with a 1-2 record, the Junior Varsity squad kept giving it their all. They finished the season with a 2-8 record. It may not have been a championship year for the J.V., but it certainly was a learning experience for the team and an enjoyable experienceforthespectatorswhoadmiredthesquad's integrity. Wildcats Quest For Title . The Wildcats started the 83-84 basketball season in their quest for their second straignt 16AA district title. The Wildcats saw their district title chances crumble in the last two weeks. The team was tied with arch rival Itasca, but dropped both meetings with them. Wildcat fans saw their team in a must-win situation. Wildcats were in second place with Grandview, one game behind. The Wildcats had to win against Grandview in order to advance to bi-district. The cats lost at Grandview and were forced in a playoff game against Grandview in the Cleburne gym. In the playoff games the Wildcats and the Zebras saw a halftime score of 29-29. After a rough game, Whitney ended five points short of advancing to bi-district. Whitney lost 54-58. Despite the loss to Grandview, the Cats had a good year. In the Rio Vista tournament Whitney took second place, and in the Lake Whitney Classic the Wildcats took first place. Their seasonal record was 16-10. ,' f .4 1 Dale Bailey shoots for a quick two. The junior varsity Wildcats went into their 1983 season with flying colors. They won both of their first games beforethey were turned away by Hillsboro. After the damaging loss to Hillsboro, the Wildcats lost their next two games. The Wildcats went into district with a 2-4 record. Their first district game the Wildcats were defeated in a teeth-shattering 36 to 40 loss to the Blooming Grove Lions. After their loss to the Lions the Wildcats came back to beat the Glen Rose Tigers 41-37. After this game the Wildcats won one more game and lost 2, and ended their district play with a record of 2-3.
