Girls' Basketball FRONT ROW, left to right: Marguerite Hancock, Eileen Briggs, Rosemary Frasier, Martha Smith, Sandra Odom, Donna Connally, Ruth Wylie. BACK ROW: Ann Gant, Manager, Janet Mullins, Kay Vines, Sue Cobb, Joyce Blocker, Betty Smith, Helen Brunett, Barbara Degner, Charlotte Marsh, Nelda Lawson, Vondean McConathy, Myra Sanders, Wanda Cunningham, Sylvia Lane, Manager. SUMMARY OF THE SEASON Still lacking a strong defensive star, the Whitney girls came out second in the district 28-B basketball chase, with Meridian coming in first in both the round robin and district tournaments. ln Eileen Briggs, Rosemary Frasier and Martha Smith, Whitney had three big scorers, and Whitney registered the highest scores in the history of the school, but as has been the case the opposition out- scored them in the close ones. Donna Connally came on late in the season to be an offensive sparkplug and along with Rosemary and Martha Smith should make Whitney a fine offensive aggregation next winter. Defensively, Sandra Odom, Wanda Cunningham and Marguerite Hancock were the top performers and only Marguerite fails to return next year. Prospects are bright for the 1957-58 season as only three from the team won't be back .
