Student Council The Student Council was organized in November, 1952, and sponsored recreational Teen Age dances and parties, made rules and regulations for social activities, as well as school behavior. A charter for this group was received in December, 1952. The Student Council magazine was a service free to the stu- dents of the Whitman school, as a part of the service received from the fee for affiliation with the Student Council National Union. Mrs.' Manley sponsored this group in both open and closed meetings. All teachers cooperated in sponsoring the social activities. The officers are: President ...... .... C arol Sparks Vice President ....... Lyle Timmens Secretary ..........,.. Patty Sparks Treasurer ........... Richard Geist Ella May Phillips and Bobby Richter acted as a Standing Committee. A s s ernbly Twenty, one hour periods were held open on Wednesday mornings, at 9:00 to 10:00 o'clock, for community educa- tion and cooperation. Some of the topics discussed and acted upon were: Health and Safety, Friendship, Books, Our Nations Capital, The American Flag, Loyalty, Con- servation, Citizenship, Boy Scouts, The Bill of Rights, Thanksgiving, The United Nations, Christmas and others, Some of the outside talent on the programs were: Mrs. John Gentry, Rev. W. M. Steinberg, Mrs. Victor Merrihew, Mrs. Chas. Richter, Bud Kommers, Mrs. Smith, Mr. Vanderbeak, and others. Over one hundred fifty miscellaneous songs were sung together in these groups. There were approx- imately four hundred forty community participants. Only the Christmas program was held at night--from 8:00 to 10:30. 31,
