All the spirit any school could contain came together to lorm one big boost, which gave the Panthers the confidence they needed to win over Rockland. The cheerleaders, determined to do their best, led the crowd in cheers that rocked the lield. Some ol this enthusi- asm can be seen on the laces ot cheerleaders Ruth Armstrong and Denise Jarvinen. Robin Sunquist beams as she demonstrates her talent in support ol the Panthers. Panther player Mark Tavitian continues to run towards the goal post even though two Rockland players are determined to drag him down. The band also put on a good showing at the Rockland game. Monica Barry does her best at making her support lor the Panthers heard by everyone. The Rockland - Whitman- Hanson game resulted in a triumphant victory lor W-H over Rockland, 14-13. i , 5 a 4, .2 1 4. -F1?'fA f-1-N ihiimeia ,,.-, x Q f Lap' L E 54,1 , i If .4 I wkitfff gi 2171, What is it? Sure vve've got the spirit for all our different teams. Yet - that's not exactly what the word seniors means. Anticipation Jon anxiously awaits the opportunity to gain yard- age in the game. His co-ordination is extremely uni- que and may explain his background position in the photo. Jon's expression shows the true vitality, which he as a person holds. What more can be said that the picture itselt could not explain. First lunch! Hey, wait tor me! I W ci c c You expect me to eat this? lt's not that bad! He must be really hungry! Seniors Soon our year will be ended, ' and vve'Il each go our separate ways, But the memories will always be with us, for now and everyday 0-'I -Q Through commitment and dedica- tion, the school, in many different ways, has proved that motivation and spirit are important. The band, the drill team, and the majorettes have worked together to entertain anxious onlook- ers. The cheerleaders have worked together to encourage the players. Gp...- X W-H VV-H W-H W-H VV-H VV-H VV-H VV-H VV-H , I 1 I I Tribute It is difficult for me to stand before you and speak of O'B and what his friendship has meant to me. It is difficult because I am but one friend, and so many of you share the same feelings and memories of him. Sometimes people are remembered to us as meaning different things to different people. I think that is unfair to think of 0'B in that way. 0'B was O'B, nothing more and nothing less, but that was enough lor all of us and more. He answered to many names, Dennis, O'B, Coach O'Brien, Doctor D, and each one of us remembers him in different settings, whether it be the West Middle, or Whitman-Hanson, Northeastern, Tahiti, Lakeville, Nantucket or just down on South Avenue, things about him remain constant to all of us including his quick warm smile, that sometimes masked his own feelings but never failed to make you feel important, and how he always seemed to find the time for you no matter how busy he was. But the quality that I will cherish was that 0'B was always there when you needed him the most. Just last week we were sitting in the coaches' room talking about a movie he had seen the night before ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCK00'S NEST and I can't help but think of an important part in that film when the patients realized that one of their weaknesses was that they were afraid to reach out and touch and help another human being because it left them so vulnerable. If strength in a human being is judged in his ability to reach out and touch a person, then I never have and I dobut if I ever will meet a stronger man than Dennis. lf we could gain anything from this tragedy, could it be for us to sit down with those people who have reached out and helped us through these last few days and thank them for being there when we needed them the most. What l'm sure we would all give for a minute with 0'B now to thank him for all his help. But I guess that would be out of his styleg it would embarrass him, as l'm sure he would be embarrassed now to see all of you gathered here in his memory. He neve did enjoy the spotlightg he seemed only to enjoy helping others get there. If l might address his football team for a moment. Monday night I sat down as l'm sure you all did and tried to reconcile the fact that he was taken from us too soon, unable to share what seemed to us success in our future. But I think this is also unfair of us to judge his happiness or worth on a few wins and losses on a playing field. What he gave us we will never lose. He loved you very much, and he knew that you loved and respected him. No man needs any other indicator of his worth. . To you, Mr. and Mrs. 0'Brien and Kevin, I hope it has been of some comfort for you to know how much everyone cared for your son and brother. We can only thank you for giving us the opportunity to know and love Dennis for what will always seem too short a time. ' And, O'B, may your journey back to the island be a peaceful one.
