26 Future Farmers of America = 3 DP UAIRY PRooucTI 1981 LEADERSHIP 4 ‘ — i ¥ STATE Wane 4 ¥ This year’s officers for FFA are as follows: Perry Heinold—reporter, Tim Brubaker—secretary, Marty Manuel—president, Lowell Warner—vice-president, Todd Gilbert—treasurer, Ben Grant—sentinnel. The Whitko FFA had a very good year. They started out the school year by helping the town of South Whitley with the Fall Festival. Eighty percent of the chapter were involved in five different events. Seventeen new members were installed in October. The state champion dairy judging team traveled to the National Contest in November. The local team placed 6th in competition with teams from all over the U.S. In December the chapter sponsored the hay and grain show. Tim Brubaker was the over all winner. During January-April the local members spent a large amount of time preparing for and participating in local, county, area and state contest. In all forty-three members took part in judging contests, proficiency awards, leadership contests and garden seed sales. The local chapter was named the top chapter in the district at the District Convention. Two judging teams, livestock and crops, qualified to compete in the state contests in June. The local banquet was held on April 12. Mrs. Richards was selected as the 1984 Honorary member. Members are looking forward to activities this summer at the state convention. Tood Gilbert, Marty Manuel, and Tim Brubaker will receive their Hoosier Farmer Degrees. This is the highest degree the state can give. The 1984-85 officer teams will attend the state FFA camp in July. About 50% of the chapter will take part in the stockman contest in July. This is the only FFA livestock show of its kind in the state.
