At the Fourth Annual Juried Art Exhibit at Grace College; Billy Smith took first in ceramics, Todd Waybright took first in watercolor, and Mark Rose took second in sculpture and Honorable Mention. Also receiving Honorable Mention were Mike Reiff—drawing, Rocky Bays—ceramics, and Greg Cooper—printmaking. At the third Annual Dick Blick Linoleum Block Print Contest Pete Castillo and Harold Walters received Honorable Mention out of 2500 entries. In the Saint Francis College High School Art Exhibit; Bill Smith received a $25.00 Merchandise Award for a print. The Art Department also competed in the Annual Scholastic Art Show sponsored by L.S. Ayres and the News-Sentinnel in Ft. Wayne. The Gold Key Finalists were Bill Smith, Michelle Conley, and Harold Walters. Honorable Mention winners were Lies] Boggs, Greg Cooper, Rick DeLaCruz, Randy Dormans, Kerine Harper, Chad Hill, Quetta Hurd, Kathie Lackey, Jan Ray, Mike Reiff, April Tobey, Todd Waybright, and Shannon White. 15

The story of Mr. Vandergelder, a wealthy merchant in the town, was portrayed by Marty Manuel. This year, due to the type of play, a new stage was built. The set crew, which consisted of Mick Ray, Greg Burkholer, John Carroll, Nick Caudill, Jim Clark, Scott Gagnon, Todd Gilbert, and Mark Miller, spent close to 100 hours in constructing the stage at a cost of approximately $800.00.
