1979 is the end of a decade that we will all remember as our school years — a time we'll look back on when we have children and say: ''Those were the good old days''. Every decade seems to have a style of its own, something unique and new. There were the Gay 90's, the Roaring 20's and the Rock and Roll 50's, but what about the 70's? Here are some of the highlights: Lori Juillerat, Laura Shepherd and Lori Smith do their version of The Streak!'' at the E.M.S. Gong Show. ''Oh yes, they call me the streak, fastest thing on two feet!'' The fads of the 70's included baring it all and streaking, or baring a portion and mooning ... Fitness was ''in'', both physical and mental. There were yoga and T.M. for the mind and soul, while jogging and health food kept the body in shape ... For the fast life there was fast-food: McDonalds, Burger King, Burger Chef, Wendy's, and Arby's ... Everything seemed manufactured for convenience. There were drive-up windows at banks and restaurants, new math for easier learning, and calculators for quick figuring ... Ina search for religion many people turned to cults. Moonies and members of the Unification Church were the most familiar cult members ... A new language came into use with the appearance of the C.B. radio. We were all on the look out for ''smokies''. Well, signin' off now, catch ya later, good buddy! =SPORTS ''The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat'' were felt strongly in the 1972 and 1976 Olympic games. They brought with them peaceful competition and the horror of unrest between the nations with the Arab terrorist attack on the Israel competitors in 1972. Many heroes came from the games including Mark Spitz, Bruce Jenner, Vassili Alexeev and Dorothy Hamill. Gymnastics grew in popularity and more heroins were born in this sport: Cathy Rigby, Olga Korbut and Nadia Comaneci. Athletes pushed their ''favorite'' products on commercials. O.J. Simpson ran through many an airport to catch his Hertz rent-a-car while Joe Namath got ''creamed''. Everyone who was anyone got into tennis. Chris Evert and Jimmy Connors were the love-set and Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King were the opposite. ''Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee, whatever happened to Muhammad Ali?''

PEOPLE Every little boy wanted to be like the Fonz, John Travolta or the Incredible Hulk. Every little girl hoped to be as beautiful as Farrah Fawcett Majors or The Bionic Woman. Jackie Onassis was in all the gossip magazines. Ford took over the presidency, pardoned Nixon and was known for his clumsiness. Jimmy Carter won the 1976 presidential election and brought his entire family into the nation's lime-light: Billy and his antics, Miss Lillian and her humor, Ruth the evangalist and Amy, the White House brat. ''What | want to say is not Hey!!! TELEVISION The big thing in T.V. programming was the spin-off. Happy Days gave birth to Laverne and Shirley and Mork and Mindy. All in the Family produced The Jeffersons and Maude which in turn produced Good Times. Programming became more permissive with the appearances of Charlie's Angels, Three 's Company and Soap, but because of the pressure put on the broadcasters, ''orogramming inappropriate for viewing by a general family audience'' could not be aired from 7 to 9 p.m. If you didn't have time for reading, it wasn't surprising to find the best- seller that you'd heard about in the form of a ''mini-series''. Roots and Rich Man, Poor Man both gained popularity (and sequels) in this form.
