Bn ee Library Club members are among those who furnish valuable service to Whitko High School: Displays this year featuring Halloween, Valentine's Day, Christmas, The Indianapolis 500, football, winter sports; and direct library employment in checking books in and out, shelving, writing overdue notices, checking in new magazines and securing shelves magazines. The nice part for those who work and perhaps not widely known is that they received academic credit. ''Checkmate'' can often be heard on Wednesdays in the library. This is where members of the Chess Club gather on meeting days to challenge each other to the strategic game of chess. Unable to at tend the regional chess competition this year, club members were content to play the game during study halls and meeting days. The Art Club was on the go with several field trips this year. Three colleges were visited: John Herron School of Art, Fort Wayne Art School and . St. Francis College. While in Ft. Wayne they went to L.S. Ayres to see the artwork of several Whitko students which was on display in the National Scholastic Arts Awards Contest. The last trip was a sketchbook photography fieldtrip to Turkey Run State Park. SUNSHINERS HAVE BUSY YEAR As usual it was a busy year for the members of the Sunshine Society, one of Whitko's largest and most active clubs. Some of the activities included Peanut Pal Week, choosing an Ideal Lady, Daddy Date Night and Chili Supper. Not only does Sunshine Society affect the friends and relatives of members, it also assists the community and special organizations. Collecting for Cancer Drive, donating toys to needy children at Christmas, raising $1563.71 for Riley Children's Hospital and entertaining at Fort Wayne State School are just a few of the ways this club helped others. At the end of the year a few outstanding members were recognized. Lori Juillerat was named Sunshine Girl of the Year at the Officer Induction. At the Senior Breakfast these girls were presented corsages for raising over 100 points: Mary Trump, Lori M. Smith, Sandy Gebert, Vicki Boggs and Felicia DeLorme. 16
