Two extra weeks of vacation for students helped them to face unknowns in the new Whitko High School building. Along with new bus schedules, lockers, subjects and teachers came the problem of getting acquainted with the building, as yet unfinished in some areas—shops, art department, home economics, gym and auditorium particularly. This meant some delayed classes and activities, with only seven weeks elapsing before the first report cards. However, finished work finally culminated in the March open house, and then on May 2lst the first graduating class, in Whitko High Schools’s own gymnasium. The seventy-five member concert band is the nucleus of the instrumental music program. When the school year is completed, they will have presented four concerts, plaved for the Whitko and Pierceton school dedications, and performed at the different schools in the Whitko district. The stage band performs music written in the dance band idiom. Today s smaller rock groups have replaced the dance band’s popularity, but the sounds of the big dance band are preserved by the high school stage bands. The thirty-two member pep band plays for all home basketball games. They play music which lends itself to sporting events, pep sessions and, in general, any event which needs pep. music. 16 French’ Citgo, Bippus, Indiana, Phone 344-3405 LEFT TO RIGHT, FIRST ROW: J. Autographs - Autographs a ee ¥ As the doors close at the end of our first year at Whitko, we can't help but recall all the little things that made the first year at Whitko so very special. We had a few problems adjusting in the beginning, but they were nothing that we didnt overcome with a little patience and effort. We have seen the beginning of something fantastic and beautiful that promises to be even great- er in the future. The question is: where do we go from here? It takes time to become fully united and only time will tell, but with a little hope, trust, faith, and understanding, from many will come one. we men it iste RRS
