Whiting High’s first graduating class in 1900 consisted of five students. This honored quintet had transferred in 1898 from East Chicago High to the brick building on Oliver Street that housed Whiting’s first high school. The faculty of three strove to give their students the education they desired, even with the limited amount of courses to choose from. Readin’, ’ritin’, and ’rithmctic were the basis of every education.
