Will we ever forget the good old spirit of our whole student body yelling for the green and white squad? The squad had a good season with only two losses and one tie. Remember the thrilling game with Clark, a score of 6 to 6 . . Gee, Joan’s going steady, so it says in the Tattler. Yes, this is what we heard as the Tattler made its first appearance of the year. It came out every second Wednesday and everyone could hardly wait to see it. . . . Who’s the editor of the Reflector? Don’t you know? Why Elizabeth Vrabely is. Many of the girls around school will someday be future Florence Nightengales. This can be seen from their interest in the new home nursing course offered this year. The G. A. C. gave the “Huddle Hop” the first dance of the year ... Yes, no school for two days as the teachers had their annual convention in Gary and every student was happy as this meant a vacation. Who’s getting married? Or is some movie scout coming to our school? No, relax it’s just the seniors. You’ve guessed it. They were having senior pictures taken . . . Our Rembrants and De Vinci’s really and truly did their part for the armed forces by making menus and such for them.

School 2 OMd .... Whiting awoke from its lethargic summer doze on September 8 as the students arrived for registration with high hopes of becoming better students and making this one of the bast years ever. Several new faces were seen among th old ones, but they soon became part of the gang. In keeping with the patriotic trend we sold war bonds and stamps, a project which every student supported. The seniors got right to work with their president, Eddie Lesko. The main topics at their many meetings were the yearbook, senior pictures, class motto, color, flowers, and many others. We also learned much about the hardship that the war has caused in China from a talk given by Miss Geneva Miller, a Red Cross missionary who was a passenger on the “Grips-holm.” This talk was very interesting and made us feel very happy that we live in the United States.

“Lil’ Abners, Daisy Maes and Clems” appeared when the seniors held their “Corny Capers” dance to which everyone came dressed as hillbillies. The party was complete with barn dancing, Virginia reels, and even corn stalks as decorations, to carry out the theme. The sophomores began their activities by electing John Evanich president. The green freshies chose Bob Parker as president. 24 + 50 = 5. This caused a sensation around school, everyone wondering what it meant. It was soon revealed that this was a novel way of saying, subscribe for the Reflector on November 24th, for 50 cents, and you will get a ticket to the much talked about Reflector Dance on December 5th. Sniff, sniff. No this isn’t a blood hound, but the students going by the cooking room as the girls prepare a luncheon for the Board of Education. It seems that some of the girls know that even now the art of cooking is the way to a man’s heart.
