The prime objective of the athletic program at Whit- field is to try to instill into the boys the feeling of team- work, sportsmanship, spirit, and most of all, a pride in competing. Each boy of the upper school received a bit of this vital training under the competent eye of Mr. Edward Steele. Mr. Steele stressed fundamentals and physical condi- tioning. Each day the boys separated into two teams and played while Mr. Steele pointed out weaknesses and strong points. Calisthenics were also a major part of the program. We are sure that all the boys have profited from their athletic experiences this year.

VARSITY SOCCER FIRST ROW M Rupe, E. Becker, D. Will, R. Carlson, J. Lewin, H. Stephens, R. Garret G Frick SECOND ROW Mr. Steele, M. Lewis, R. Tennant, I. Coe, E. Gaiennie, R. Dalton, C Podman izcky S Vosburgh, R. Laidet, I. Dickler. The 1965 soccer season has been a year of remodeling. The season was more successful in knowledge gained than in games won. Our many new players have had the experience of battle and have emerged experienced players. Our soccer coach, Mr. Steele, who came to us a veteran soccer player, has coached well and taught us much. Captains Jim Lewin and Howard Stephens plus Rusty Carlson, Chris Podmaniczky, and Dave Will supported the rookie team with their skill gained in past seasons. As a result of this year's training and games, next year's team will have a solid group of players with moretthan just potential, but real skill. We are'sure that next year' team will have an excellent season.
