We fully realize and attreciate his efforts to blace our school on a higher standard. Hr. Caraway has been most helbful and cooterative in regard to every student undertaking, and it is through his guidance and leadershit that we have accomtlished much during the school year of 1943-1944. I yy r , ' x hi? ri, ,.,,,,,,,,,, -.4,.,,Lg A ' 'rbi' ..'-.f. , . To the Young Men and Young Ladies of Whitewright High School: it is with mixed feelings that l try to bring you a message, for I am both thrilled and appalled. I am appalled at the tragedy that will be yours if you fail to avail yourself of the wonderful opportunities which are open to youths of today--a day of world conflict, of personal inequalities, and of fears. So often you have heard me say with the poet- If wisdom's ways you'd wisely seek Five things observe with care: Q whom you speak Q whom you speak And -Ygrw, and , and And again: Life is short and time And our hearts, though Yet, like muffled drums are beating Funeral marches to the grave. What you plan to do in life, do without delay, for-- Life is a leaf of paper white whereupon each of us may write His word or two And then comes night. w here . is fleeting stout and brave, I ein thrilled at the possibilities that are yours if armed with that humility of mind, that uprightness of character, and generosity toward others which is always found in one's having the proper relations with the Divine. If you are fortified with the four cardirnl virtues--Temperance, Fortitude, Prudence, and Justice--endowed with Hope, which is an anchor to the soul, and blessed with a healthy body and mind, you may drive toward a goal of high achievement and leave this world a better place in which to live because of your having lived a life--not for self--but for others. This true success I wish for each of you.
