CLASS HISTORY The first day of high school, for any group of enthusiastic ninth graders, is an exciting, unforgettable, and often embarrassing experi- ence. And it was all of that for our intelligent group. Like all other classes we faced the problem of picking class officers. Although not well acquainted with this procedure, we elected four who handled our class very well. They were: president, Steve Moksnes, Vice- president, Joan Pior: secretary, Ann Kearns, treasurer, Larry Dornacher. Martha Stevenson, Carol Schultz, Jim Rice, and John Bosshard took seats on the Student Council to represent our eager class. Miss Maerzke and Mr. Jenson hardly survived as our first year advisers. Time went by and we were becoming more and more used to the teasing of the upper classmen. Our first big event, Homecoming, was a big success for us! On the night of the parade we were seen rolling down the street finishing our beautiful float, just in time to receive the ex- citing booby prize. This experience did not faze us a bit, for we knew that we had three of the best years of our school life yet ahead. We entered the second year as sophomores with a big smile on our faces, for we now were upper classmen-at least to the freshmen. Starting the year off on the right foot, we chose Allen Hicks, president, Sharon Marshall, vice-president: Kathy Orchard, secretarygg and Carol Schultz, treasurer. Again this year our Student Council members consisted of two boys and two girls: Marilyn Benes, Ann Kearns, Jim Rice, and John Bosshard. By this time we were in need of some cash. Candy sales were decided on as the last resort. They, too, were a great accomplishment, for we made huge profits on them of not less than fifty cents? This showed that things were perking up for the class of 57 ! The most exciting year of all, our glorious junior year, started September 6th, 1955. Ahead of us now stood a big project, the Junior Prom. This great event took place on May, 11. The gym was decorated as an under-water scene and was appropriately named Coral Capers . For the first time in years the decorating was done without crepe paper. The throne, a big sea shell, spectacular with its variety of colors, was a fitting background for Martha Steven- son's beautiful gown when King Charles Regez crowned her as Queen Martha. The court con- sisted of twelve couples elected and voted upon by the class. Top Hatters played soft and dreamy music 'til midnight. After that all ad- journed to the armory, where a Post-Prom Par- ty was provided for both College High and City Page Eight i High students who had attended the Prom. This proved to be very much fun for everyone present. During this year many enjoyable things happened to our class. Our float won first in the Homecoming Parade with the title Our Subs Did This, What Will Our Varsity Do? Sharon Marshall and Steve Moksnes, best-all- around , were awarded the Spoon and Spade. Representatives to Badger Boys' and Girls! State were Albert Brokmeier, James Dehler, and Martha Stevenson. Also, we had received our class rings. What jewels! Our class of- ficers, in addition to Chuck, were: vice-presi- dent, Carmen Catania: secretary, Mary Boyd: treasurer, Rosie Coleman. The advisers were Miss Christenson and Mr. Nehring. Represent- atives on the Student Council were: Eloise Wendell, Jerry Vannoy, Jack Albrecht, Steve Moksnes. Now, as seniors, what Wheels ! It seems so wonderful to be on top at last, but looking farther on we find it hard to think of leaving. Earning money for a class trip to Washington, D. C., has been the main topic of our class meet- ings. Projects undertaken to earn money were: a donkey basketball game, senior dance, a car- nival, and a few candy sales. Also, a big boost- er to the treasurer's book was the class play. This was the popular Cheaper by the Dozen , directed by a wonderful person, Miss Dupuis. This was the best of all years, for our foot- ball team won a championship, untied and un- defeated. Dave Smith, tackle of the Whippets, was put on the All-State team. Marilyn Benes, the only senior cheerleader, did her part in leading our boys to the championship. On October 12, King Jerry Vannoy and his Queen Ann Kearns reigned as our Homecom- ing royalty. Gridiron Glory was chosen as the theme of the affair. This year we have all male leadership over the class with Dave Smith as president, Allen Hicks as vice-president, Dave Davis as secre- tary, and Bruce Piddington as treasurer. Miss Schuster and Mr. Buckingham served as our class advisers. Now comes the time for the three last im- portant memories, Class Night, Baccalaureate, and finally Graduation on the 29th of May. We had not realized, until it came time for our de- parture, that the school friends and teachers we have learned to love meant so much to us and will never be forgotten in our future years of life.
