1987 WYCENIAN 45TH EDITION WHITESVILLE NEW YORK Seniors ................... 3 Classes .................. 17 Sports ................... 31 Activities ............... 45 Staff..................... 55 Advertising .............. 65 DEDICATION Classes put much consideration and contemplation into their decision of to whom they will dedicate their yearbook. Many worthy people come into mind. A spectrum of individuals that have helped the class members grow intellec- tually or mentally, and others that have always been around to provide encouragement and enthusiasm, come into mind. The Senior class of 1987 was no different. As the time to choose someone to dedicate our yearbook approached, a list of candidates went through our minds. Eventually, we came to the conclusion that our choice had been decided for us in our Sophomore year. We, the Class of 1987 wish to dedicate the 45th edition of the Wycenian to our Class Advisors: Mr. Charles Cutler and Mrs. Lou- ise Mattison. Our class implemented the concept of change early in our High School career. We had a variety of advisors that enacted their own forms of fund raising. We also designed and developed our own concept of what we felt a Junior Senior Banquet should look like; and then we worked together to achieve it. This conviction of change prevailed during our Senior year. Not only did we want our own Class Colors, Song, Motto and Flower, we also wanted to develop a School Seal. Not only did we want a good yearbook that would immortalize our Class, we wanted the best; and everyone ended up giving their opinion to make sure that the 1987 Wycenian will remain unrivaled. Not only did we want to take our Senior trip at an island in the Atlantic; we wanted to go all the way to Jamaica. Ultimately, we achieved our goals. Simultaneously, we realized the extent that Mr. Cutler and Mrs. Mattison went to to help our class achieve our objectives. We'll all remember Mr. Cutler as he'd sit in front of our class at yet another class meeting explaining the pur- pose of the fair share system—again. Any Senior would recognize the voice that told us everyday to “get off the desks and stand up for the Pledge as Mrs. Mattison's personal daily advice. Not everyone was aware of the sleepless nights that Mr. Cutler spent worrying about when the Community Calendars would finally arrive. And sometimes all of the classes that Mrs. Mattison spent doing book- work for present fundraisers, and solving problems for fundraisers of the past, did go unthanked. Mr. Cutler and Mrs. Mattison, we appreciate everything that you've done and gone through to help us accomplish our goals when no one else thought it could be done. Thank you for your guidance and support as we attempted to make our Senior year unforgettable, each in our own way. You both have earned not only the Dedication of our yearbook, but also the dedication of the Class of 1987. APPRECIATION Looking back over all of our years of education, we recognize the many people that have helped us reach our present position in life. People that seem to have always been there to encourage us, whether we felt we needed it or not. Our lives have been filled to capacity with people in and out of school that have advocated our success. Assisting with our scholastic longevity were many elementary, junior high, and high school teachers. Our various superintendents, guidance counselors, secretaries, coaches, bus drivers, and custodians have all had an opportunity to contribute to our development. Specifically, we would like to recognize the individuals that have taken on the responsibility of being class advisors in past years. These include Mr. Charles Cutler, who started us out, Mrs. Susan DiBiase, Miss. Linda Sauerbier for her two years of support. Miss. Pamela Kirkwood, and Mr. Charles Cutler and Mrs. Louise Mattison for our last two years. We also appreciate our yearbook advisor, Mr. David Palmiter, who helped us work through all aspects of developing a sensational yearbook that will help establish our Class of 1987 as part of everyone's memories. Out of school, we acknowledge our parents, relatives, friends, neighbors, and all others that we each remember as they all have supported us. We also remain grateful for the advocacy of the Whitesville community. The extent and continuity of their support became obvious as we culminated our Senior year with a trip to Jamaica. We, the Class of 1987, would like to show our sincere and grateful cognizance to all of the above-mentioned people by Appreciating the 1987 Wycenian to them. 2 • Dedication Appreciation out of chaos Jeffrey Scott Erdmann Majors: Math, Science, Business, Spanish Activities: Soccer 1, 2, 3, 4, Band 1, 2, 3, 4 Chorus 1, 2, 3, 4, Basketball 1, 2, 3, 4 Class Secretary 1, 2, 3, 4 Band President 3, 4 Baseball 1, 2, 3, 4 National Honor Society Yearbook Co-editor American Legion Boy's State 1986 Melissa Jean Cutler Majors: Math, Science, Business, Spanish Activities: Band 1, 2, 3, 4 Chorus 1, 2, 3, 4 Soccer 1, 2 Cheerleading 1, 2, 3, 4 Class Treasurer 1, 2, 3, 4 Yearbook Staff Sr. Band Treasurer 3, 4 Sr. Chorus Treasurer 3, 4 National Honor Society, Gifted and Talented 1, 2, 3, 4 Allegany County Legislative Internship 3 Olym- pics of the Mind 2 Andrew James Gibson Majors: Math, Science, Business, Spanish Activities: Soccer 1, 2, 3, 4 Basketball 1, 2, 3, 4 Chorus 2, 3, 4 National Honor Society, American Legion Boy's State 1986 Yearbook Co-editor 4 • Seniors Jenniffer L. Fans are a major part of athletics and we appreciate the support we have received. We have really appre- ciated going to away games and having more fans than the opposing team. It didn't matter what sport it was, indoor or outdoor the weather never kept Whites- ville fans away. We truly appreciate the trouble our fans have gone through to make it to our games to cheer us on. We hope that we were able to provide decent entertainment for everyone and we ap- preciate your fine support. 62 • Senior Athletes SPECIAL SENIORS Bruce Stevens was selected stu- dent of the quarter for first quar- ter at BOCES Missy Cutler was selected in the 1987 Close Up Program to go to Washington D.C.
