Text from Pages 1 - 88 of the 1985 volume:

AS WE REFLECT ON OUR FINAL YEAR. WYCENIAN 1985 We Can Make It Time and time again I dream of used to be. Thinking to myself Remember when ... ? Our first day of school Was just meeting new people? Those people developed Into friends for life. Together, we've learned The ABC's of life. The 123's of love. And the Complicated arithmetic of the world. We have a whole world to explore Our lives will change each step of the way. And though we know it's tough We know we can make it. s c 0 t . t J- E 1 1 i s o n 4 — — ft 71 HALL OF FAME HALL OF FAME CLASS FLIRTS MOST SPIRIT MOST TALKATIVE 12 Brenda Keener SENIOR BOCES Rick Graves Kevin Erdmann John Waters Steve Johnston Janice Good 14 IN MEMORY OF Lloyd Grover Lloyd Grover will always be remembered as a man who would be there to help or offer advice. He would take life in stride—no matter the circum- stance. The community and people who knew him shall miss having the warmth and generosity he shared, along with his volunteer services to the public. He was his own man, a leader in his own respect. Julie Richmond THE SUNSHINE THE RAIN A meadow filled with flowers Each one touched with dew. There are so many alike, but those-rare-are-few. A light shines upon each bud to help them grow so fine each ray touches a separate part and together they make sunshine. The sunshine leaves, and clouds cover leading the sunshine astray. Tears falling from the heavens taking the happiness away. Those tears wash the joy from within each stem's heart. They know not what is wrong but they tried to do their part. A moment of truth from him that sometimes causes pain. Just a mix of good and bad THE SUNSHINE THE RAIN. Virginia Grover Randy Chase Appreciation We, the class of 1985, would like Mrs. Sara Squier to know how much we appreciated her assistance in reaching our first major goal in life. Graduation. Through the years. Mrs. Squier has helped us all to get a good start toward establishing a career. When it came time to make new schedules, she made sure we took courses that we could benefit from in the future. The process must have been hectic. There was another side to her. A caring and understanding person. She treated everyone as though they were her own children. If we had a question or a problem we knew she would listen and offer a solution. Mrs. Squier was more than just an excellent guidance counselor, she was a par- ent and psychologist as well. Since she has retired we can see how much we needed her. Nobody can take her place. We would like to thank her for sharing her time and wisdom with us. She will be greatly missed and we the class of 1985, speak for everyone. DEDICATION We, the senior class of 1985, would like to dedi- cate this years Wycenian to one of our favorite teachers, David L. Palmiter. Though all the teachers of Whiteville School have helped us tremendously, we feel that Mr. Palmiter made that special effort. No matter how small the problem was, he guided us through. There was a time when nobody on the faculty wanted to be our class advisor because we fought constantly amongst ourselves. Mr. Palmiter was kind enough to become our advisor. He turned us into a class with strong bonds of friendship. When he became ill, there was a possibility that he could no longer be our advisor. But through his recent illness, he sent us notes assigning us duties. This caused us to pull together and work harder. He showed us we could work as a team. We the Senior Class of 1985, would like to thank him for all the guidance he has given us through the years and this is the only way we can think of to show our gratitude. We will always remember you Mr. Palmiter and be forever in your debt. SENIOR OFFICERS Jan Heisey—Treasurer, Ginger Grover—Secretary, Dave Palmiter—Advisor. Larry McAllister—Vice President, Kevin Erdmann—President A group of students begin life together in kindergarten and it all culminates into what we call the Senior Year. These years are filled with trials and tears and joys of success. This class has been able to ovecome many obstacles placed before them and emerged as one group. Very few people gave them any hope of working and accomplishing the goal of a Senior Trip. This has been done due to their desire to work together and make decisions together for the benefit of the “class” and not the “self. It has been both a job and a pleasure to have worked with these people. They have always done 100%“ of anything I have ever asked and I will miss them in the years to come. The life they began together will now go its separate way but hopefully each will be able to reflect upon the past thirteen years with fond memories. 17 NAME MAJORS Scott Ellison Business, Math Kevin Erdmann Deisel Mechanics Sharon Fedick Business Janice Good Food Service Business Ricky Graves Conservation and Heavy Equipment Ginger Grover Business, Language Cindy Harrison Science, Business Math Jan Heisey Math, Science, Business, Language Kelly Horton Business, Language Steve Johnston Photography Brenda Keener Cosmetology Amy Loring Math, Science Charlie Miles Business, Math Dennis Munro Business, Boces Larry McAllister Ag, Business Louie Norton Business, Math Dwight Schoonover Science, Business, Language, Math Glenda VanDerhoof Math, Science John Waters Conservation and heavy ACTIVITIES Soccer 2,3,4; Basketball 1,2,3,4; Baseball 1,2,3,4; Year- book 3,4; National Honor Society 2,3,4 Soccer 1,2,3,4; Basketball 1,2,3,4; Baseball 1,2,3,4; Band 1,2,3,4; Chorus 1,2,3,4; Class Pres. 3,4; Yearbook 3,4, Cheerleading 3,4; Softball 3,4; Yearbook 3,4; Chorus 1,2 Chorus 1,2,3,4; Band 2; Yearbook 3,4, Baseball 3,4 Soccer 1,2,3; Volleyball 1,2,3,4; Softball 1,2; Chorus Band 1,2,3,4; Class Sec. 1,3,4; Yearbook 3,4 Cheerleading 1,2,4; Chorus 1,2; Yearbook 3,4; Class Sec. 2 Soccer 1,2,3,4; Volleyball 3,4; Stats 2,3,4; Class Tres. 1,2,3,4; National Honor Society 2,3,4; Yearbook Tres. 3,4; Chorus 1,2,3,4; Accompanist 1,2,3,4 Soccer 1,2,3,4; Basketball 1,2,3,4; Cheerleading 1; Volleyball 1,2,3,4; Chorus 1,2,3; Stats 3,4; Yearbook 3, 4; basketball 1,2,3,4; Soccer 1,2,3,4; Baseball 1,2,3,4 Basketball 3,4; Chorus 1,2,3,4; Band 1,2,3,4; Class VPres. 1; All-County 1,2,3,4 Soccer 4, Chorus 3 Yearbook 3,4; Computers 2,3,4 Soccer 1,2,3,4; Basketball 1,2,3,4; Baseball 1,2,3,4; Cho- rus Band 1,2,3 4; Chorus Band Pres. 4, Yearbook 3,4 Band 1,2; Chorus 1,2,3; Drama 3,4; Class Pres. 2; Class VPres. 3,4 Yearbook 3,4; National Honor Society 3,4 Soccer 4; Basketball 1,3,4; Yearbook 3 National Honor Society 2,3,4; Chorus Band 1,2,3,4 Soccer 3; Cheerleading 3; Accompanist 1,2,3,4; Chorus 1,2,3,4; Band 1,2,3,4; All-County 1,2,3,4 Equipment 18 CLASSES 19 JUNIORS Row 1: Todd Haskins, Wendy Stebbins, Patricia Cooney, Wendy Burdick, Patty Grattan, Judy Jackson, Bill Edwards, Jay Seely. To be accepted into this ensemble is a great honor. Only 200 students from throughout New York State are chosen out of a field of over 1,000. Glenda achieved this goal by receiving a grade of 6A+ and a perfect score of lOOpoints at this audition. Due to the fact that she was in the top 50th percentile of students accepted to the All State Chorus, now as a Senior she was invited to apply for the Music Education National Conference All Eastern Conference Chorus. Once again Glenda was chosen out of a field of over 500 stu- dents located in 12 Eastern Seaboard States. This is quite an honor since only the most talented and dedi- cated music students are selected for membership. Glenda's next goal was to be accepted to the Sound of America Honor Chorus which will concertize on a 27 day European tour during the summer of 1985. She once again made the Whitesville Central School and community very proud. Glenda received notification of acceptance within 24 hours of auditioning. We are honored to have her not only represent the USA while in Europe but especially Whitesville. Good Luck Glenda—sing one for us. 50 P.M. They spot a 10-6 overall record and 8-0, first place in the league. The early season was highlighted by a 63-43 win over Cuba, the 1983-84 Class C sectional champion. In two tournaments we played in. Bob McIntyre made the IAABO 50 All Tournament Team; and Jeff Erdmann the same in the Greenwood X-Mas tournament. We have high hopes at this point of a league championship and a successful Section V Tournament. 84-85 V A R S I T Y B A S K E T B A L L 56 84-85 J R. They have beaten every team in their D League with 3 losses coming from Bolivar (C). Strong rebounding and defense have been the keys to this team's success. Only one player with prior J.V. experience is on this year's team, making their accomplishments more noteworthy.
