42nd EDITION 1984 WYCENIAN WHITESVILLE CENTRAL SCHOOL WHITESVILLE, NEW YORK CLASS OF 1984 PRESENTS OUR LAST GOODBYES DEDICATION As seniors, we have the tendency to look back upon the past 13 years and think what we have accomplished. Making it through school is a difficult task, but it is something that was made much easier by the faith, trust and encouragement one person has given out to the 19 students in the Class of 1984. Mr. Cutler was assigned a very difficult task back in 1977. There was a group of kids who were going into the 5th grade who were very much behind, and whom it would take them alot of time and effort to catch up to where they should have been. Ever since that year Mr. Cutler has been a constant friend, advisor and slave driver! With much hard work and tons of encouragement Mr. Cutler has helped our class to become bright, alert adults who know the meaning of responsibility. Back in the 5th grade Mr. Cutler started out trying to help us reach one particular goal. In April of this year we experienced the payoff from hard work, and determination as we reached our goal for our senior trip. The entire senior class took a long awaited trip to Florida, which was completely paid for by various fund raisers held since 5th grade. This is just one of the many different ways Mr. Cutler has helped us. In gratitude for all the hours he has spent with us, all of the patience he has bestowed upon us and above all for just having faith in our class. We dedicate our 1984 yearbook; Our Last Good Byes to him as a special way of saying Thanks to a man who saw poten- tial in us when all others could not. 2 APPRECIATION The Class of 1984 would like to express our gratitude to Miss Rogers, who has served as our class advisor for the past two years. During this time her continual support, combined with her determination and driving nature have aided this class to reach its goal. We will never forget the sound of her soft sweet voice ringing through the halls at the close of each day. The Memory of it will carry on through the years intermingled with all the sights and sounds of high school. We sincerely thank you and wish you much happiness in your future. Both off and on the field, he was friendly, polite. Sincere. He was very competitive, but at the same time conscious of opponents' feelings. Bruce didn't have to be boisterous dr brag about his ability; he quietly let his aggressive talents speak for him. As an athlete and leader, he was a model. His coachability and friendliness re- presented traits which are among the highest rewards of coaching. Bruce was extremely well-respected by his team mates as evidenced by his being captain of his sports teams and his receiving the Senior Athlete Award which is given annually to the athlete who was the most valuable to his teams throughout his four years of high school. This respect was shared by opposing coaches and sports officials. The county basketball officials honored Bruce by awarding him one of two countywide sports scholarships based on sportsmanship, Achievement, and scholarship. His leadership was also evident academically in his membership in The National Honor Society whose criteria are scholarship, leadership, char- acter, and service. Bruce's presence will be truly missed. SPORTS B O Y S S O c c E R Row 1: Jeff Erdmann, Jim Sutley, Charlie Saxton, Tom Spicer, Jeff Kear, Mark Harrison, Dusty Ainsworth, Rich Folts, Dennis Stebbins. We represented the South in the county championship game. We played well in a losing effort to the eventual sectional champions. We entered sectional play with a variety of injuries and lost to Friendship in another well-played game. Post season play gave us an indication of things to come as we finished the sea- son starting only 3 seniors. The leadership of our seniors will be missed, but the play of underclassmen makes us anticipate next season. Charisma, enthusiasm and determination were qualities that the 1983-84 Whitesville Varsity Girls Soccer team possessed. Their record was 1-9 but their never say die attitude still made them all winners! We are losing four seniors this year. Dawn Lewis, Cheri Horton, Betsy Spicer and Donna Waters. We expect a young, strong team to fill the Bluejay uniforms in the 1984-85 soccer season. Dwight Schoonover, Steve Johnston, Kevin Erdmann, Rob Billings, Larry Easton, Scott Ellison, Jim Sutley, Dennis Munro, Rich Foils, Eddie Olds, Wally Amphlett (Coach) VARSITY BASKETBALL The 1983-84 Bluejay Varsity was a successful team. After a slow 2 win 5 loss start in December the Jays finished at 10-9 overall and 7-3 in the league for second place. The team was led by the hustle and defensive play of Rich Folts, it s captain and provided a lot of excitement for its supporters over the winter months other seniors who will be missed include Larry Easton, Ed Olds, Jim Sutley, and Rob Billings. Well done Bluejays! 50 J.V. BASKETBALL The JV's presently sport a fine 14-3 record; their three losses coming to C schools by s com- bined total of seven points. They are currently averaging 58.5 points per game while giving up 38.5 points per game. Their progress and fine play this year indicate that Whitesville should be a force to contend with the next two years. Various injuries plagued the girls volleyball team this year hindering continuity. Cheri Horton, Dawn Lewis, Vickie Coppage, and Besty Spicer leave the team this year, but a nucleus of six team members return next fall. 52 CHEERLEADERS Members of the 1983-1984 Whitesville Cheerleading Squad are the following; Seniors; Mary Dawn Lewis, Besty Spicer, Juniors: Sharon Fedick, Ginger Grover, Glenda VanDerhoof, Sophomores: Wendy Burdick, Judy Jackson, Laura Johnston, and Wendy Stebbins, and Freshman: Melissa Cutler and Barb Strouse. Serving as Co-Captain for this year are Mary Dawn Lewis, Wendy Stebbins, and Glenda VanDerhoof. The girls created eight new cheers this year. They also held two pep rallies. The first of which, from a crowd—participation viewpoint, was the most successful pep rally their advisor has ever seen. Also the cheerleaders participated in the Scio Pom Pom Routine Tournament on January 28, 1984. Miss Sauerbier would like to specially thank Mary Dawn Lewis for all she has contributed to Cheerleading during her four years on the Whitesville Cheerleading Squad. Teachers tried to straighten us out. Lord knows how they tried. But we were unique, we couldn't be changed, because then we would not have been us. We shared the strain and outlived the pains, togetherness was a must. From children to bright adults, we've been together through it all. We share the deepest feelings, of friendships that cannot fall. Soon tears will come and we will part, the time will be at hand. Just remember we have more memories, than there are pebbles in the sand. The sun rises and the sun sets, and so our spirits soar. The time has come to say Good Bye, to the Great Class of 84 .
