DEDICATION We, the Class of 1983, dedicate our yearbook, the Wycenian, to the people of the community of Whitesville. In special recognition, we thank our parents for their caring, patience and devotion. They have always been there to listen to our problems and to encourage us to go on. Above all, their loving support has guided us and given us the values on which we will pattern our lives. We extend our deep thanks to the business community which has so generously supported our fund-raising events. Without their generosity the success of our projects would not have been possible. We also wish to recognize our teachers. They have helped us learn how to be individuals, shown us how to make the best of what each of us has and demonstrated that responsibility is a necessity. Appreciation is due also to the many friends, neighbors, sports fans and firemen and ambulance corps volunteers who have given freely of their time, skill and funds to our school and our community. The people of Whitesville are special. We value them and we thank them.

IN MEMORIAM The summer of 1982 saw a tragic accident at work take the life of Rick Pensyl. His death stunned this community and saddened everyone who knew him. Rick was a good friend whose rugged good looks, warm smile, sense of humor and quiet self confidence made him so well liked by his classmates, teachers and all who knew him. He was an outstanding athlete at W.C.S. His natural ability and capacity for hard work made him a standout on three varsity basketball teams which had a combined 52-11 record with him as a starting guard. Rick was a fierce competitor and consistent winner in soccer and baseball as well. No mat- ter what sport it was, he always gave 100%. Rick was the kind of person who would go out of his way to help a friend with a problem or say something to pick you up when you were feeling low. He took particular interest in young people, often helping them through hard times by just talking to them. His family and the Board of Education have initiated an annual award to be named, “The Rickie Pensyl Memorial Student Athlete Award , which will be awarded for the first time in 1983. The recipient will be privileged to be identified as having some of the abilities and qualities which were so abundant in Rick Pensyl. Rick was a person who will never be forgotten and will always be admired by all who came in contact with him. He helped make anyone he knew a better person.
