The greatest thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in the direction we are moving. To you, the graduating class of 1980, as you prepare to leave this school, may you experience much happiness and success. Your years have been special; you have grown and matured, experienced the joys of friendship and tasted the fruits of victory and success as well as the unhappiness of failure. May your years ahead contain much joy, happiness, success, peace and love. David E. Gee Superintendent Mary Ann Pritchard Board Clerk Phyllis Sawyer Secretary to the Principal Mary Calcote District Treasurer 22

BOARD OF EDUCATION Due to circumstances beyond our control, we were unable to produce a suitable photograph of the Board of Education. Though we regret this situation, it has provided us with the opportunity to instead present information about these gentlemen and the service they render to the community. Elected to five year terms in which they serve without pay, they participate in regular monthly meetings, call additional meetings when special matters are under consideration and also attend county and state school board meetings. Though they receive few recognitions for their contributions, they put in a great deal of time and effort in an attempt to provide the best education possible for our students. We would especially like to recognize the service of Mr. Dale Coleman who is currently completing his fifteenth and last year as a Board member and his seventh year as President of the Board of Education. He is a graduate of Whitesville Central, is employed as a mail carrier by the U.S. Postal Service and also serves the community as a member of the local fire department and ambulance corps. All our other Board members are serving their first terms. Mr. Richard Dibble, a Whitesville alumnus, is employed by C-E Air Preheater. He is a county sports official for soccer and basketball and serves as a volunteer fireman and member of the Independence Emergency Squad. Mr. Charles Bledsoe is also active in the community working with the fire department, emergency squad and as a Red Cross first aid instructor. A graduate of Whitesville Central, he is employed as manager of the meat department at Bells Supermarket. Mr. James Gee, an employee of Turbodyne Corporation, graduated from Wellsville Central School. We are told he is interested in organic gardening, investigating ways of saving energy and race car driving. Mr. David Munro was elected to the Board in May of 1979. A graduate of Wellsville High School, he is employed as a supervisor at C-E Air Preheater. He is active in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and is AYF director. These Board members are responsible for the school's compliance with all federal and state regulations in addition to dealing with special situations within our own school district. They establish and approve assignments of personnel, school curriculum, rules and policies, approve student placement in special programs, evaluate and advise the school superintendent and also provide a listening ear for commu- nity members, students and school personnel. Financial matters also require a great deal of the Board's time. They work with the superintendent on the annual budget and have this past year undertaken a special renovation project which involved deciding on necessary repairs, choosing an architectural firm, investigat- ing financing and submitting the proposal to the community. The members of the Board of Education provide a most valuable and too often unappreciated service to the community. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the time and effort they put forth on our behalf. David L. Palmiter V I c E P R I N C I P A L 25
