THE CLASS OF 1980 PRESENTS PAST REFLECTIONS THERE ARE PLACES I'LL REMEMBER ALL MY LIFE, THOUGH SOME HAVE CHANGED, SOME FOREVER, NOT FOR BETTER, SOME HAVE GONE AND SOME REMAIN. ALL THESE PLACES HAD THEIR MOMENTS, WITH LOVERS AND FRIENDS I STILL RECALL, SOME ARE DEAD AND SOME ARE LIVING, IN MY LIFE I’VE LOVED THEM ALL. THOUGH I KNOW I’LL NEVER LOSE AFFECTION FOR PEOPLE AND THINGS THAT WENT BEFORE, I KNOW I’LL OFTEN STOP AND THINK ABOUT THEM. IN MY LIFE I’LL LOVE THEM MORE. 1980 WYCENIAN WHITESVILLE CENTRAL SCHOOL WHITESVILLE, NEW YORK The jingling school bell echoes in my mind Along with the hollow laughter of younger children left behind. You're the friend I've always had; You stayed close when things got bad. Remember how we couldn't wait to get out of school? And oh, when we got on the high school side, we thought we were cool! Sports and dances, classes too. All of these things I've shared with you. Honesty, truth and respect Are some qualities teachers helped us reflect. All those crazy study halls And we can't forget writing on the bathroom walls. Remember how we studied before a big test And couldn't wait to see who had done best? But those days are almost gone; They're fading away like the words to a song. Soon my friends and I will go our own ways. And in our future days We'll always know which way to turn. Looking back on what we've learned. The days of carefree pleasure. The days we thought would last forever. DEDICATION We, the Senior Class of 1980, would like to dedicate our yearbook to a very deserving man, Mr. David Palmiter. You are a su- perb history teacher whose Regents record during your 14 years here is unrivaled. As a teacher and as a friend, you have been a guiding light . When any of us had a problem that we felt was unsolvable, you could be counted on to make it seem simple. You prepared us for more than just the Regents exam in our junior year; you helped us on our way to a happy and successful life. Your practice of priding yourself on excellence and encouraging it in others taught us all to take a special care in anything we do. You have always been able to fulfill your extra duties as Vice Principal and National Honor Society advisor and still find time to be a good friend to each and every one of us. When we had an argument or dispute with a teacher, you could always be counted on to be a fair and objective mediator. You are always poised and confident under pressure and have developed that trait in all of us. Whenever our history classes were slowly fading into a moment of dullness or boredom, you always brought back our atten- tion with a crazy joke or by reading the school lunch menu with your special phraseology and comments. When the days be- gan getting long and tempers started getting short, you allowed us to release the pressures and stress by having a party. Your relaxed attitude and good sense of humor always made life seem a little easier. We are all proud to have been a part of your classes and to have had you as a friend. Thank you!!! 4 We, the ' animals of 1980 , would like to express our deep and sincere appreciation to Mrs. Carole O'Hagan. You have dedicated yourself to our class over the last three years and helped us in many ways. We are all more poised and skilled in speaking, writing and understanding literature because you are a tremendous English teacher. When we have needed someone to confide in, you have always been available and willing to listen. You have been a great advisor because you have always stood beside us when things seemed to be going badly and willingly giv- en up your time to be at our events. Even though our class has had some disagreements, we have always been able to talk to you and solve our problems peacefully. We want you to know that we appreciate everything you have done for us as teacher, advisor and a great friend who has helped us solve any problem that arose. We are all proud and happy to have had you be a part of our lives. Thanks!!! APPRECIATIONS The Class of 1980 would like to express our gratitude to a most deserving person. Miss Susan Hillman. We deeply appreciate the time and effort you have given us as a teacher and as the yearbook advisor. Your spe- cial talent as a math teacher has produced results which will surely help us in future years. The stick- to-it-iveness you have taught us has shown us how much pleasure we can experience when we stay with a problem until we find the answer. Many things we thought were difficult were made easier by your friendly personality. As well as solving mathematical problems, you seemed to have done a nice job of solv- ing problems of life. This yearbook would not have been the same with- out the special attention you have given it. You have helped make it something special for each one of us. Reflections of the good times we have had with you will remain with us for years to come. Thanks for just being you! 5 REFLECTIONS Shadows passing through my mind — Things that I have left behind. People, places, happy times — Gone forever, left behind. Would that I could live again. See these places, see these friends. Touch a face, sing a song — Oh, so sadly, these are gone. Left me now with passing seasons. And this is the very reason I've stored with love in my mind People, places, left behind. Youth will pass me, leave me old. But these dreams will be my gold. Lovely places, precious friends — They can always live again. Shadows passing through my mind — Things that I have left behind. Pamela Buetow SENIORS 9 ■ se KELLY J. CALCOTE YVONNE J. His ability to take a joke as well as give one out has helped to keep the at- mosphere in the school relaxed and easy going. Taking on the responsibility of be- ing a senior class advisor requires a great deal of personal time and effort. He has given us that and much more. BvfT -71 20 The greatest thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in the direction we are moving. To you, the graduating class of 1980, as you prepare to leave this school, may you experience much happiness and success. Your years have been special; you have grown and matured, experienced the joys of friendship and tasted the fruits of victory and success as well as the unhappiness of failure. May your years ahead contain much joy, happiness, success, peace and love. David E. Gee Superintendent Mary Ann Pritchard Board Clerk Phyllis Sawyer Secretary to the Principal Mary Calcote District Treasurer 22 BOARD OF EDUCATION Due to circumstances beyond our control, we were unable to produce a suitable photograph of the Board of Education. Though we regret this situation, it has provided us with the opportunity to instead present information about these gentlemen and the service they render to the community. Elected to five year terms in which they serve without pay, they participate in regular monthly meetings, call additional meetings when special matters are under consideration and also attend county and state school board meetings. Though they receive few recognitions for their contributions, they put in a great deal of time and effort in an attempt to provide the best education possible for our students. We would especially like to recognize the service of Mr. Dale Coleman who is currently completing his fifteenth and last year as a Board member and his seventh year as President of the Board of Education. He is a graduate of Whitesville Central, is employed as a mail carrier by the U.S. Postal Service and also serves the community as a member of the local fire department and ambulance corps. All our other Board members are serving their first terms. Mr. Richard Dibble, a Whitesville alumnus, is employed by C-E Air Preheater. He is a county sports official for soccer and basketball and serves as a volunteer fireman and member of the Independence Emergency Squad. Mr. Charles Bledsoe is also active in the community working with the fire department, emergency squad and as a Red Cross first aid instructor. A graduate of Whitesville Central, he is employed as manager of the meat department at Bells Supermarket. Mr. James Gee, an employee of Turbodyne Corporation, graduated from Wellsville Central School. We are told he is interested in organic gardening, investigating ways of saving energy and race car driving. Mr. David Munro was elected to the Board in May of 1979. A graduate of Wellsville High School, he is employed as a supervisor at C-E Air Preheater. He is active in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and is AYF director. These Board members are responsible for the school's compliance with all federal and state regulations in addition to dealing with special situations within our own school district. They establish and approve assignments of personnel, school curriculum, rules and policies, approve student placement in special programs, evaluate and advise the school superintendent and also provide a listening ear for commu- nity members, students and school personnel. Financial matters also require a great deal of the Board's time. They work with the superintendent on the annual budget and have this past year undertaken a special renovation project which involved deciding on necessary repairs, choosing an architectural firm, investigat- ing financing and submitting the proposal to the community. The members of the Board of Education provide a most valuable and too often unappreciated service to the community. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the time and effort they put forth on our behalf. David L. She has worked under five dif- ferent administrators and served many classes during her years here. As cafeteria manager she has successfully performed a difficult and increasingly demanding job which involves balancing student wants and needs, budget restrictions and state regulations and requirements. We appreciate the special contributions she has made to this school and we wish her a most happy retirement. We worked, we learned, we loved, we lived. We were challenged —by our teachers, —by our parents. And we shall continue to be challenged as we begin the new life that lies beyond. Although we will be separated, our memories of W.C.S. will linger on. “LATER Congratulations to the Class of 1980 Many Happy Days!
