1978 WYCENIAN WHITESVILLE CENTRAL SCHOOL WHITESVILLE, NEW YORK Photography by Our Studio, Inc. DEDICATION We, the Class of 1978. dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Sheldon Atherton. Mr. Atherton has done an outstanding job teaching Industrial Arts at Whitesville Central for the past nine years. Stressing practical applications of the skills he introduces so as not to entirely limit them to classroom activities, he has developed projects to benefit the school and the community. He has been working to build nature trails in the woods behind the school with the help of his shop classes, and his efforts have helped make our playground one of the best in the county. The time and effort he has contributed as a coach have helped to build a highly respected boys varsity soccer team which advanced to the sectional finals in 1975 and won the county championship in 1976. Three years ago he in- stituted a junior varsity soccer team to develop future talent. His strength and positive outlook are reflected in his team’s abilities and sportsmanlike conduct. In addition to his accomplishments in these areas, Mr. Atherton has also upheld our spirits throughout the years. Never at a loss for a quick comment or witty reply, he has helped to keep us aware of the light side of our situation. His ever-present humor and easy laughter have helped to keep us going on many of “those” days. We owe a great deal to Mr. Atherton and we would like to express our thanks and hopes for his continued success in future years. 2 We would like to express our appreciation to Mrs. Linda Austin, who has proved to be one of our most versatile teachers here at W.C.S. Mrs. Austin has taught Home Economics for the past six years. She has opened all her courses to the boys and instituted a special program called Independence and Survival, which stresses skills necessary for the single person. After spending a half year leave of absence to fur- ther her studies at Alfred University, she returned in the 1977-1978 school year to teach Senior Health in addition to her other duties. Mrs. Austin is a very dedicated teacher who puts a great deal of effort and extra research into all of her classes. The Senior class would like to thank her for being so patient and understanding with us. APPRECIATIONS Our appreciation this year goes out to Miss Louise Rogers, who has contributed her time and efforts not only as a business teacher, but also as the Senior Ad- viser. Miss Rogers has been working with our class for the past two years and with her help and innovative ideas for projects we were able to raise a very sizable amount of money for our Senior trip. She has fur- thered an interest in business in many high school students. She has managed to keep peace and harmony among us with her personal touch. She has often taken time to listen and advise us in our personal lives. She has helped us to recognize that there is always a bright side to light the way and see us through. Thank you. Miss Rogers, for just being you! 5 MR. GEE'S MESSAGE “THE FIRST SHALL BE LAST AND THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST This quote is certainly appropriate for both you the graduating class of 1978 and myself, since I am com- pleting my first year here at Whitesville Central School and you are completing your last one. May we both look back at this year with fond memories and conclude that not only has it been reward- ing and enjoyable but also a year of fulfillment of anticipated goals and attainment of much joy and happi- ness. To the class of 1978, whatever you might do, wherever you might roam or travel, may the spirit and good will of this school continue to be with you. My fondest wishes for continued happiness, joy, success and love. 4 David E. Gee Administration and Faculty Mr. Dale Coleman, Mr. Larry Lewis, Mr. David Gee, Mr. Melvin Stebbins, Rev. Glen Brubaker.
