WYCENIAN We, the Class of 1969, believing in the fundamental worth of individuals, have selected as the theme for our Wycenian People. The song “Up With People expresses our conviction that “people are more important than things.” TABLE OF CONTENTS The People 7 Administration 9 Seniors 17 Underclassmen 27 People on the Go 37 Activities 39 Athletics 47 People with Power 57 UP, UP WITH PEOPLE Up. up with people, you meet ’em wherever you go Up. up with people they’re the best kind of folks we know. We feel that Whiteville Cen- tral School is really lucky to have a teach- er like her, because she has been a music teacher, advisor, and friend—all combined into one. Mrs. Squier graduated from Indiana State College in 1945. She attended sum- mer school at the University of Michigan. Recently, she has taken graduate courses in guidance at Alfred University. Mrs. Squier taught music at Northern Potter School for nine years and has been our music instructor since 1962. Effective the first of February this year, she also as- sumed the position of guidance counselor here. The Senior Class is deeply indebted to Mrs. Squier, for she has served as our class advisor for the past four years. And so, Mrs. Squier, it is with deep apprecia- tion and great pleasure that we, the Class of 1969, dedicate this 1969 edition of the Wycenian to you. PHOTOGRAPHY BY THATCHER’S STUDIO, WELLSVILLE. N. Y. 4 Gary Plaisted Gary graduated from Whitesville Central School in June, 1963 and later joined the Air Force on Febru- ary 4, 1964. He met his untimely death by drowning on June 10, 1967 at Carswell Air Force Base, while serving his country. Gary will always be remembered for his shy ways and willingness to cooperate in all school activities. MEMORIAM TO PAST GRADUATES Franklin Whitsell Franklin graduated in June, 1966 from our school, also, and began working as a farm laborer. Coinciden- tally he, too, met his death by drowning in a farm pond on Beach Hill on June 9, 1968. Frank, as he was called, will be remembered for his quiet manner while attending W.C.S. 5 Compliments of SANDBURG OIL CO. WE APPRECIATE We, the Class of 1969, truly appreciate what all of our teachers have done for us. But, at this time, we would especially like to honor Mrs. Viola Mahoney, without whom this yearbook would be only a fantasy. Mrs. Mahoney graduated from Whitesville School in 1928 and Wellsville Training Class the following year. She has also attended summer school at the State University College at Geneseo and has taken extension work at Alfred University. Mrs. Mahoney taught in Rural School from 1929 to 1932 and third grade in our school from 1949 to 1951. She has also served as a substitute teacher. In 1963. she accepted the position as teacher’s assistant and has been with us since that time. While she has been with us, Mrs. Mahoney has been a “jill-of-all-trades.” She keeps the attendance records, serves as the cafeteria supervision, is the yearbook advisor, and teaches remedial reading. So, Mrs. Mahoney, the Class of 1969 appreciates all that you have done for W.C.S. Compliments of RICE’S MUSIC HOUSE. Principal’s Message To the members of the Class of 1969,1 offer my congratulations. Perhaps the most important ex- perience school offers you is the op- portunity to work with your class- mates in many situations both in class and in extracurricular activi- ties. The ability to work with people, to resolve problems and keep mov- ing toward desired goals are traits well worth developing. The very existence of this year- book is proof that the Class of 1969 has learned some of the skills of working with others.
