CLASS HISTORY Looking back through our years at W. C. S, we think of the many memorable times that we have had as classmates. We remember with great thanks the help and encouragement that we have received from our parents and teachers. After 12 years of work and fun we have reached our Senior year with a class of 20. We have earned money from various projects through our high school years and are now planning for a trip to New York City. This year we put on the play Exit the Body and with the Juniors we had the Holiday Hop. We also beat the Juniors in the magazine campaign. At the present time we are putting an all-out effort into the Wycenian. In our Junior year we started out with 24 students but lost Don Hallett and Nancy Nesbit during the year and Sandra Stafford and Marilyn Pritchard at the end of the year. This year was very satisfying for us in the line of money-making. We beat the Seniors in selling maga- zines and were very successful with a turkey raffle at the Halloween Fair. The community calendar was put together by us and the Junior Prom with the theme Stairway to the Stars was held. We held the Junior-Senior Banquet in the school. As Sophomores we ordered and received our class rings. During this year we held two record hops. We gained Dennis Nye and Sondra Lippincott at the beginning of the year and lost them, Jerry Lewis, and Dennis Hall during the year. In our Freshman year we started with 26 students and later Ernestine Hendrickson came to us from Troupsburg and then soon left again. We had a pizza party and a dance. With the addition of Dennis Hall 26 students started Eighth Grade with Mrs. Keefe. We had a class picnic at the end of the year and with the help of Mr. Adams and Mrs. Green we put on the musical Kentucky Sue, We lost Don Empson during this year. We started Seventh Grade with 28 students under the guidance of Mrs. Green. We had a banquet for ourselves during the year. Grace Jantzi and Jim Nelson joined us at the beginning of the year and Roger Nye and Kent Wentling left us. As Sixth Graders, Mrs. Barney improved our handwriting and our manners. We gained Donna Hall and Don Empson and lost Karl Abbott, Alton Stanford, and David Johnson. Mrs. Clark made Fifth Grade very interesting with our Stamp Collection Club. We lost Connie Nye, Linda Slack, Madeline Thompson, Patricia Chamberlain, and Beverly Lewis and gained Kent Wentling and Alton Stanford. Our class was saddened by the death of Sherry Eis- ter, our classmate for a few short years. Mrs. Hurlburt had her hands full when our 34 members started Fourth Grade. We will always remember the good times we had collecting, pressing, and mounting flowers. Wayne Coats, Beverly and Jerry Lewis, Roger Easton, and Roger Merrick joined us this year. We entered Third Grade with 29 members. Mrs. Lowrey was our teacher except during the weeks of her leave of absence when Mrs. Mahoney taught us. We started Second Grade with 33 members and lost four. They were Roger Nye, Kent Wentling, Patricia Chamberlain, and Arloine Schoonover. We wrote our own little play and presented it. Cassandra Waite was welcomed back after winning her fight with polio. We started First Grade with 33 members. We had Miss Harrington for most of the year and finished the year with Mrs. Coats. We made a train out of orange crates and made hats and costumes for the different railroad people. Billy Dean left us and Bonnie Brown joined. In the Fall of 1952, 36 excited youngsters started Kindergarten under the guidance of Mrs. Van Fleet. We presented the play Peter Pan, and took a train ride from Hornell to Wells- ville with a picnic in the Wellsville Park. Our mothers sewed caps and gowns from sheets for a Mock Graduation. 15
