C. S, we think of the many memorable times that we have had as classmates. We remember with great thanks the help and encouragement that we have received from our parents and teachers. After 12 years of work and fun we have reached our Senior year with a class of 20. We have earned money from various projects through our high school years and are now planning for a trip to New York City. This year we put on the play Exit the Body and with the Juniors we had the Holiday Hop. We also beat the Juniors in the magazine campaign. At the present time we are putting an all-out effort into the Wycenian. In our Junior year we started out with 24 students but lost Don Hallett and Nancy Nesbit during the year and Sandra Stafford and Marilyn Pritchard at the end of the year. This year was very satisfying for us in the line of money-making. We beat the Seniors in selling maga- zines and were very successful with a turkey raffle at the Halloween Fair. The community calendar was put together by us and the Junior Prom with the theme Stairway to the Stars was held. We held the Junior-Senior Banquet in the school. As Sophomores we ordered and received our class rings. During this year we held two record hops. We gained Dennis Nye and Sondra Lippincott at the beginning of the year and lost them, Jerry Lewis, and Dennis Hall during the year. In our Freshman year we started with 26 students and later Ernestine Hendrickson came to us from Troupsburg and then soon left again. We had a pizza party and a dance. With the addition of Dennis Hall 26 students started Eighth Grade with Mrs. Keefe. We had a class picnic at the end of the year and with the help of Mr. Adams and Mrs. Green we put on the musical Kentucky Sue, We lost Don Empson during this year. We started Seventh Grade with 28 students under the guidance of Mrs. Green. We had a banquet for ourselves during the year. Grace Jantzi and Jim Nelson joined us at the beginning of the year and Roger Nye and Kent Wentling left us. As Sixth Graders, Mrs. Barney improved our handwriting and our manners. We gained Donna Hall and Don Empson and lost Karl Abbott, Alton Stanford, and David Johnson. Mrs. Clark made Fifth Grade very interesting with our Stamp Collection Club. We lost Connie Nye, Linda Slack, Madeline Thompson, Patricia Chamberlain, and Beverly Lewis and gained Kent Wentling and Alton Stanford. Our class was saddened by the death of Sherry Eis- ter, our classmate for a few short years. Mrs. Hurlburt had her hands full when our 34 members started Fourth Grade. We will always remember the good times we had collecting, pressing, and mounting flowers. Wayne Coats, Beverly and Jerry Lewis, Roger Easton, and Roger Merrick joined us this year. We entered Third Grade with 29 members. Mrs. Lowrey was our teacher except during the weeks of her leave of absence when Mrs. Mahoney taught us. We started Second Grade with 33 members and lost four. They were Roger Nye, Kent Wentling, Patricia Chamberlain, and Arloine Schoonover. We wrote our own little play and presented it. Cassandra Waite was welcomed back after winning her fight with polio. We started First Grade with 33 members. We had Miss Harrington for most of the year and finished the year with Mrs. Coats. We made a train out of orange crates and made hats and costumes for the different railroad people. Billy Dean left us and Bonnie Brown joined. In the Fall of 1952, 36 excited youngsters started Kindergarten under the guidance of Mrs. Van Fleet. We presented the play Peter Pan, and took a train ride from Hornell to Wells- ville with a picnic in the Wellsville Park. Our mothers sewed caps and gowns from sheets for a Mock Graduation. 15 ROW ONE: P. Stanton, P. Clark, T. Slack, K. Wentling, B. Wood, P. Pritchard, P. Ains- worth. ROW TWO: Mrs. Barney, R. Nye, E. Courtesy of WILDMAN'S FUNERAL HOME AND WILDMAN'S BEAUTY SHOP Administration PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE “Back Through The Years” is an excellent theme for a yearbook. I know your 1965 yearbook will be for each of you a source of memories, wonderful memories. Memories enable us to look back and to enjoy again some experiences and some friend- ships that time has changed. The past can, if used wisely, do even more for us. It can help us in guiding our daily lives and in developing our goals for the future. Thus your year- book can help you not only as a source of pleasant memories, but as another guide to living in the present and dreaming dreams for the future. . I hope that your years in Whitesville Central have been of the type that they will serve these purposes: wonderful memories, some assistance in present and help in planning for the future “Through The Years” to come. BASKETBALL The fine shooting of Wayne Coats and Neil Graves, the rebounding of Bill Harding, Roger Hall, Ken Easton, and Jerry Sawyer and the use Bill Birmingham as the play maker, have been been the main factors in moving the Blue Jays toward the top of the league. Two of the highlights of the 1965 season were the Competing with Rushford for third place in the league and the Christmas tournament with Troupsburg, Jasper and Woodhull in which the Blue Jays won the Trophy. The record for our team so far is 6 wins and 8 losses. BASEBALL The baseball team this year had a fairly poor season. Good hitting and bad fielding are the terms that could be applied to this year's team. One highlight of the season was the beating of Belfast (7 to 1) with only 1 error com- mitted, by the Blue Jays for the first time in five yeras. TRACK Last spring was our first year of heavy competition for Whitesville. With a very small number of boys the team did quite well. They finished 10th out of 15 in the county and beat Woodhull in dual competition (58 to 30). The highlight of the season was Chuck Ball's 2:15 half mile in the County meet. Seniors on the team were Chuck Ball (Captain), Wayne Stebbins and Tom Flamini. CROSS COUNTRY Ten runners turned out for the second fall season of our Cross Country. This year's squad, due to inexperience, didn't fare as well as was expected. Lead runners were Pat Ainsworth (Captain), Jeff Lewis promising Freshman, Lyle Lewis, Roger Hall and Merton Matteson. Victories were over Portville and Ovid in the Coun- ty meet. 38 Courtesy of WILLIAM GRAVES DELAVAL MILKING SERVICE Merton Matteson, Jack Snow, Mickey Cramer, Pat Ainsworth, Charles Bledsoe, Lyle Lewis, Roger Hall, Bill Harding. The Senior Musicians wish to thank Mrs. Sara Squier and all their former music teach- ers for the training and help given to them in the field of music for the past several years. Our class is quite musically inclined with nine in Band and seven in Chorus. Mrs. Squier has helped prepare us for a variety of musical ac- tivities outside our own school. Mrs. Squier accompanied three of the Seniors to Rochester to the All State Sectional Concert which they participated in. She also accompanied Gene Payne to Rochester to the Conference All State Band. Since two of our Seniors plan to make music their life's work, Mrs. Squier has cer- tainly had a definite part in preparing'them for this. We, the Senior Musicians wish to thank her for all she has done for us. 46 ROW ONE: Ann Derhammer, April Folts, Pamela Reisman, Diane Lewis, Cynthia Wood, Ann Flanagan, Charlene Bledsoe, Sue Weihoneig. CLUB ACTIVITIES STUDENT COUNCIL Our officers are as follows: President, Bill Birmingham; Vice-President, Patty Stanton; Secretary and Treasurer, Kathryn Kailbourne. This year the Student Council has attempted to start an honor society. After each ten week period the faculty and the Student Council choose two students--one from the 7th, 8th, 9th grades and one from the 10th, 11th, 12th grades who meet the general and academic re- quirements set by the Student Council. Then after the honor roll is completed, an assembly is called in which all of the honor roll members are mentioned and then the two students cho- sen by the Student Council are honored. There will be a plaque in the trophy case which will have the names of the different Students of the Periods engraved upon it. ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION This year the officers of the Athletic Association are: Glenda Schrader, President; Neil Graves, Vice-President; and Patricia Clark, Treasurer. As money raising projects to pur- chase awards given to athletes at the closing of the year, we sponsored a car wash in January and have sold popcorn and candy at all athletic events held at our school. Also, this year, we have sold many school jackets and sweat shirts. F. F. A. The Whitesville Chapter of Future Farmers of America has a membership of twenty- seven boys this year. The officers arg: President, Pat Ainsworth; Vice-President, Roger Hall; Secretary, Lyle Lewis; Treasurer, Edward Vantreese. For a money making project we sold cider in the Fall. We also have a dance planned for the Spring. F, H. A. This year the F. H. A. has seventeen former members and six new members. They were initiated in October followed by a public dance in the evening. Several members went to the F. H. A. Fall Rally in Friendship. In December we had a bake sale and we are now mak- ing plans to visit the Harrison Valley Children's Home and The Angelica County Home. LIBRARY ASSISTANTS Our program of library service aims to give pupils an opportunity to broaden their per- sonal experiences, to become more adept in the use of books and libraries, and to experience satisfactions resulting from service to fellow students and teachers. This year through the donation of many hours of their time the following specific services have been rendered. Beverly Lewis has assisted at the charge-out desk in the morning before classes and has taken care of the magazines.
