Whiteman Junior High School underwent an evaluation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in an attempt to attain the highest honor that can come to a Junior High School. It was necessary that there be the highest degree of cooperation among the patrons, among the community, the Board of Education, the administration, and the student body. The spirit that has brought about this cooperation is evident in the growth and de- velopment of the school. Without such spirit Whiteman Junior High School would be just another school. The cooperation which was exhibited during the evaluation by the North Central Association proved that Whiteman is not just another school and its stu- dents not just ordinary students. To this spirit of progress that exists among all the forces in the school community and to that spirit which will continue to exist in the hearts and minds of all the students long after our school days are over, we dedicate this Indian Pathways' of 1971. zlfeman uzzzbr tjggdgcsafoafq f9ouQyg fznfhna 1971 .A W ir i W ,Ag,.-MLNW, rn, , H,77ZpdI2 IIS co12sfa121'Q canof upon fo creafe 5113 own fqzfure ' ' The theme of the 1971 Indian Pathways is Man is constantly called upon to create his own future. The future each of us will enter is created by the incidents which we encounter daily. As junior high students, we see our futures being built on school happenings, home activities, and social events. Each action we perform is in- fluenced by our environment and the circumstances which surround us. Our individual futures, in turn, are influenced by seemingly minute and meaningless bits of our daily lives. Our future is inevitably affected by the knowledge we decide to make our own through the classes we attend daily and also by our friends. Theconclusion is obvious: our futures depend on us alone, and we are constantly called upon to create them. The faculty and -staff of Whiteman. Iunior High School is immediately respon- sible for overseeing and guiding each stu- dent in his attempt to create his own fu- ture. From the principal to the bus driv- ers each person does his part in the pro- cess-, Whiteman's faculty and staff keep the building operating efficiently so that each stud ent has the best possible chance for a good education, HH acu 1? an my at gf as l is F M T 25 Q Q fs E as Q at ei Q? With better team support than Whiteman has been used to in the past, the team put on some good shows, Most memorable was the last second win over Northside in which Bill Bickel sank a desperation shot from midcourt to send Whiteman to a double overtime victory, Season hfEec0r0f4Hl I Whiteman Opponent 28 ----- - - Northridge 55 2 l - - - - Towncrest 62 38 - - - - Northwood 31 33 - - - - Jimtown 35 33 - - - - Brookdale 54 32 - - - - Fairfield 38 42 - - - - Northside 40 33 - - - - Westside 56 44 - - - - Concord 38 43 - - - - Pierre Moran 63 38 - - - - Westview 48 44 - - - - Wawasee 55 32 - - - - Warsaw 58 47 - - - - Bethany Christian 35 37 - - - - West Noble 51 52 Action against Bethany Christian FRONT ROW: T. Mr. Tichenor stated that the tumout was very impressive for a first year pro- gram, especially since the bas- ketball games gave interference. The intramurals were forming a team to challenge the teachers in basketball. For some the end of junior high school, For others it is only the end of this yearbook. But we can still look back upon the days and events shown here and remember. We have stated repeatedly that the school years offer a perfect example of man in his attempts to create his own future. We have seen that, as students, our futures are shaped by classes, by events, by teachers, by friends. We have not mentioned, however, that all of us need to be alone. Our greatest efforts to shape our own futures will come when we are lost in thoughts about ourselves and our lives, each of us alone.
