Yet the expense was well jus- tified at WCHS this year, as the band participated in almost every facet of school life, and also joined in community projects. In August the band performed at the Johnson County fair. Then fall was a busy time for band members playing at Franklin College's Homecoming, and presenting fivd home football game shows. After entering a marching contest in October, in which the gajorettes places first, the band sponsored Fall rolics in Novem r. In addition to dpmpeting in Solo and Ensemble contest, both district and State, the band joined in a Band Festival at Edinburg. Twenty-seven members were chosen for thejcounty honor band. Money was voted in this year, almost S400 for new programs were presented to elementary schools. After organizing dance and pep bands , the band also gave two floor sho is at basketball games. Money was vote-id in this year almost S400 for new instruments, and 3300 for white spats. Problems of raising the neededfunds were solved in a variety of ways. Selling magazines, birthday calendars, and candy around school and through the community, helped. The band also sponsored sock hops to raise money. Because of the ariety and extent of its projects, the band is one ofxithe schools most active organiza- tions. It is also jone of the largest, having 107 members. In school and community affairs this year, thei band has been a vital part of the schools spirit an involvement. . ist, ,VV 81 , E -Q ' 'xi as ,g5g.sgy gt . , ss .
