JR. MISS WINNERS-S. Henry, B. Cornelison, C. Garrison, D. Hunter and C. Bowman P,- BETTY CROCKER WINNER-S. Leavell ilk., i represent WCHS Well in variety of activities arts, music, art, business, agriculture, language arts, social studies and home economics. Each winner an-icelived an engraved plaque from the Optimists u . Twelve girls participated in the Jaycees' White- land Junior Miss Pageant in November, and five of them received awards. Miss Congeniality went to Becky Cornelison, Talent to Carol Bowman, Physical Fitness to Sharon Henry, and Poise and Appearance to Debbie Hunter. Connie Garrison received the Junior Miss title. She Was presented with a S75 bond, and traveled to Frankfort to participate in the state Junior Miss Pageant. In December the Outstanding American Founda- tion selected three outstanding teenagers from WCHS. Jeanne Cosat, Charles Brantley, and Dale JR. MISS CONTESTANTS-S. Smith, C. Bowman, C. Garri- son, B. Chandler, D. Coffman, J. Gaynor, B. Cornelism, C. Barnett were chosen on the basis of their scholastic achievement and activities. Karen Giroud was honored by the Daughters of the American Revolution in January. She was presented with the DAR Good Citizenship Award, and was eli- gible to try for a scholarship. Shirley Leavell won the Betty Crocker award in January by achieving the highest score on the contest exam. The foundation awarded her with a scholar- ship. For these WCHS students the satisfaction of achievement was only enhanced by the awards they received. The true rewards were felt in personal pride and accomplishment, and in coming closer to the high goals each had set for himself. Raymer, S. Henry, J. Shout, and J. Cosat. -. McDonald Knot picturedj. Students of today Recognizing outstanding students serves two pur- posesg it is a thanks for their contribution, and an incentive to continue toward high goals. Several titles and prizes were awarded to WCHS students this year. Girls' and Boys' States were held over the sum- mer, four delegates were chosen and in addition, four alternates were named. Girls' State delegates, spon- sored by a local sorority, were Karen Giroud and Jeanne Cosat, their alternates were Cindy Black and Connie Garrison. Charles Brantley and Dale Barnett were sent to Boys' State, sponsored by the Sunshine Society. Their alternates were J eff Favinger and Gary Hudson. For a week in June the students lived in cities at I.U., learning how to conduct the busi- ness of government.
