The staff thought it would be interesting to have the former editors of the Crossroads write tributes to Mr. Elliott since we are dedicating this edition to him. We hope you find them interesting, too. As representative for the staff of '48 l would like to express our appreciation and thanks to you, Mr. Elliott, for the wonderful education which we received while at Whitehaven. While you could not have accomplished the iob without the excellent support of the faculty, your leader- ship was the key factor in raising Whitehaven to the stand- ing it enioys in the field of education. While the faculty performs the task of educating the students, it is your understanding and ability to reason that develops the character and makes the Whitehaven graduate the well- rounded citizen that he is. Ted Lassetter, T948 Endicott, New York I am truly grateful for the opportunity of saying a few words about Mr. Elliott and to personally thank him for the service he has rendered to me, my family, and to the community I love. Mr. Elliott has devoted his life to the girls and boys of Whitehaven, and it is my hope that all of our lives reflect the Christian training he has afforded us. The Whitehaven community has many assets, but one of the most cherished assets which it has been fortunate to have is the service of an educator and gentleman such as Mr. Elliott. He has served long. He has served well. The only way to repay Mr. Elliott for this long, faithful service is for the boys and girls to pattern their lives after the examples he has set for us. Then in the future, as at the present time, the Whitehaven community will always re- flect the results of Mr. Elliott's life work. This is the type of living tribute he so richly deserves. ln my heart are many things which l would like to say about Mr. Elliott, but l will try to sum it up by merely stat- ing that l hope my children are fortunate enough to have the counsel, advice, and supervision of an educator as wise, as sincere, and as faithful as Mr. Elliott has been to the young men and women of the Whitehaven community. Vernon Johnson, 1940 Wenatchee, Washington Much has been said praising Mr. Elliott - that he is an outstanding educator and administrator has long been recognized by all. He enjoys the respect and admiration of students, parents and the entire community. We all know him as a great gentleman who is con- siderate and understanding, yet firm when firmness is re- quired. Every person who has been under his supervision has profited immeasurably therefrom, and those of us who have had the good fortune to know him regard him as one of our most valuable leaders. James W. Martin, D.D.S., 1943 Memphis, Tennessee Mr. Elliott's examples of character, sense of fair play, and deep understanding of human behavior will continue, for many years to come, to guide and influence White- haven graduates as they assume their responsibilities in our civilization. His great success as principal can be at- tributed to a host of admirable qualities, but probably most of all to his belief: Development of character is equally as important as development of the mind. J. D. Johnson, D.D.S., 1939 Oak Ridge, Tennessee CEditor of the first Crossroadsj All the way Mr. Elliott has been one hundred percent behind W.H.S. and has brought our Alma Mater into the highest bracket. He has been and will continue to be a help and a fine friend to all of us. I am very thankful l could have him as my principal for twelve years. Sid Wilroy, 1953 Vanderbilt University Nashville, Tennessee .gn ,..., . - , -Ubi,
