Come Out of the Closet A Mystery Comedy in Three Acm Presented by the Senior Class of 1959 Directed by Mrs. Vivian Nelson CAST Mrs. Malone ......... Linda Buys Hilda Hawkins .... . . David Riggs Three girls from Ohio, Hilda, Irene, and Jenny, all eager and excited, hoping to establish jobs in New York, are compelled by circumstances to rent a shabby, run-down apartment from a greedy landlady, Mrs. Malone, on their first night in town. The oddest thing about the apartment is the locked closet with no key, but there must be a key, for they see shadowy figures come out of it at night, carrying boxes. The girls don't have enough money for all three of them to stay, so they tell Mrs. Malone that Jenny is just a visitor helping them move, but when Mrs. Malone makes her unexpected visits they have to hide Jenny in the closet Qwhich they found out wasn't lock- ed all the timej. The girls didn't lcnow it at first but they have many unusual neighbors who intrude themselves in one way or other. Mr. and Mrs. Cutter, who have a. week old baby have to share the girls kitchen with them, and a Guthrie Rosewater, who is a modernistic poet. Later they find that he has been making coxmterfeit money up in his room and hiding it in the locked closet. The girls also find out that that is what made the awful noise they heard the other night. Abbie Philips is his Muse, and she seems like a nice old lady, but turns out to be one of the gang. The girls become worried, so Jenny hires a bodyguard to protect them, who ls none other than Her- cules Jones, one time taxi driver and one time boxer. George Hanson who is Irene's fiance decides he has to stay ifl-Iercules stays. This develops into a real brawl and Mrs. Malone finds out about the boys and Jenny staying in the apartment and says they all are a gang and calls the police, namely Officer Sweeney Qwho is blinder than a batj. As the events turn out George and Hercules reveal the secret of the closet and the police an'ive in time to hand-cuff the real culprits and the girls are much happier with their landlady on Twenty-Second Street.
