After we members of the class of '59 leave WHS and time fades, the happy memories of high school days, and we forget the jokes about our teacher who graduated in ought three and whose S3 a week salary we all laughed about, we'l1 not forget the principles which we learned from this fine teacher and friend. Perhaps we'1l come back to Whitehall and visit the Whitelake Golf Course, where he took over as manager in the string of 1959, We're sure we' find he's as well liked and as much of a success there as he was at our school. At one o'clock we gained five new members, George Hein, Charlie O'Conne1l, Mary Swenson, Sharon Weeks, and Ray Iteen. Two o'c1ock came and we had a talent show. No new members joined us that hour. Three o'clock and all is well. This year we presented a gym show. We gained Suz- anne Grate, Roger Gravengood, Carolyn Moore, Spud Wolfe, and Judy VanSlyke. Four o'clock came quickly. Charlie Caviness was the sole new member to join us. We took a trip to a maple syrup farm in the spring. If you found us at five o'clock, you would see a class of hard workers, selling cup cakes, donuis, and candy apples, early training for a major pre-occupation throughout our academic career. For that was the year we went to the Shrine Circus in Grand Rapids and ate at the Pantland Hotel. New faces were Ray Capek, Rosita Davis, Don Johnson, Steve Berry, and David Riggs. At six o'clock some of us became band members. Seven o'c1ock came and we moved into the old senior high building. Harold Arman, Judy Norvvick, Ted Inman, Bob Johnson, Joan Jordon, Inez Kosld, Jerry McGoren, Merv Mitchell, Frieda Reeves, Ed Shalifore, and Lois Thomas joined us in our studies there. Eight o'clocl-c and we ruled the roost, the older students moved into the new high school and we were the big bosses, we thought, Diane Casselman, Barb Fortenbacher, Dennis Hertel, and Jim Berlin joined us. The last day of school when one third of our class skipped, we were caught and had to attend school one day extra after everyone else was out for Sumxner Vacation. Also we visited the Hackley Library, Muskegon Museum, and the B. C. Cobb Plant. rawrsmx ww '- ,W .vm -5 sv, , ,W A I , is Histor At last nine o'clock came and we were freshmen scum, First we had to be initiated. David Riggs Three girls from Ohio, Hilda, Irene, and Jenny, all eager and excited, hoping to establish jobs in New York, are compelled by circumstances to rent a shabby, run-down apartment from a greedy landlady, Mrs. Malone, on their first night in town. The oddest thing about the apartment is the locked closet with no key, but there must be a key, for they see shadowy figures come out of it at night, carrying boxes. The girls don't have enough money for all three of them to stay, so they tell Mrs. Malone that Jenny is just a visitor helping them move, but when Mrs. Malone makes her unexpected visits they have to hide Jenny in the closet Qwhich they found out wasn't lock- ed all the timej. The girls didn't lcnow it at first but they have many unusual neighbors who intrude themselves in one way or other. Mr. and Mrs. Cutter, who have a. week old baby have to share the girls kitchen with them, and a Guthrie Rosewater, who is a modernistic poet. Later they find that he has been making coxmterfeit money up in his room and hiding it in the locked closet. The girls also find out that that is what made the awful noise they heard the other night. Abbie Philips is his Muse, and she seems like a nice old lady, but turns out to be one of the gang. The girls become worried, so Jenny hires a bodyguard to protect them, who ls none other than Her- cules Jones, one time taxi driver and one time boxer. George Hanson who is Irene's fiance decides he has to stay ifl-Iercules stays. This develops into a real brawl and Mrs. Malone finds out about the boys and Jenny staying in the apartment and says they all are a gang and calls the police, namely Officer Sweeney Qwho is blinder than a batj. As the events turn out George and Hercules reveal the secret of the closet and the police an'ive in time to hand-cuff the real culprits and the girls are much happier with their landlady on Twenty-Second Street.
