Newhart scores most JV points Junior varsity The junior varsity, coached by Chet Pieczynski, ended with a record of 22-4. Sophomore Chris Newhard, who also suits up for varsity, led the scoring with 394 points. Rick Steckel, another sophomore who suits up for varsity, had the second highest point total at 265. “The reason for the success of this year’s team” says Coach Pieczynski, “was the balanced scoring. Six different players were high scorers for one game or another. Six players averaged over 5 points per game, but only one averaged in double figures for the year.” Gig goes down 120

Coach Stickler’s has record of 23 team wins Baseline drive Coach William Stickler's freshmen finished the season with a record of 23 wins, the most wins a freshman team has ever had. Their only defeat came when they played Central Catholic, a 64-62 overtime loss. “This team is composed of 12 young men who have a real desire to play,” said Coach Stickler. “They practice with intensity and play with discipline. I’m proud of them and what they have accomplished. The leading scorer was Kyle Kern with 279 points; he also had 100 assists. Jeff Buskirk used his quickness and jumping ability to lead in rebounds (189) and assisted for scoring on 51 out of 82 jump balls. Brian Somich and Mark Molchany played defense and had to stop the opponents’ best scorers. Bill Wagner was tough in the post. Dennis Laub and Jim Murtaugh got the fast break moving. Tom Mino did a good defensive job on the boards. Against Nazareth, John Thomas, Matt Koenig, John Manasso, and Jason Szewczak accounted for 38 points. Loose ball
