Even though it’s less than a quarter mile from the high school to the middle school, freshmen had much farther to travel to make the switch. High school provided a totally unique experience for most of the frosh. This new experience was accented by changes in teachers, classes, and activities. Student Council, band, choir, and clubs gave all of them a chance to participate. Sports proved to be a major After eating a hearty meal in the Bcafeteria, freshmen enjoy a few minutes of socializing before being dismisssed to their homerooms. These ninth graders are part of the high school’s largest class with 457 members. testing ground for future varsity athletes. Their football team finished the season with an 8-1 record. The basketball team registered a 13-6 slate even without Ed Gall, Tim Snyder, and Brad Rice, who were good enough to play on the jay vees. Freshmen were also involved in their big social event of the year, the Freshman Coronation. “Close to You” took place May 5 and Karen Schwenk was named queen. 211 freshmen
