Songs like Two Young Brothers and The Battle of New Orleans were songs of war which overshadowed west- ern ballads. Awards were presented by the entertain- ment industry for outstanding performances. Arthur Godtrey's illness dealt a blow to per- tormers as he underwent cancer surgery.
