Through the cooperation of the entire class, we have edited a book which We hope will equal those of former years and which will serve as an incentive for future classes. If at some future date this volume serves to recollect some cherished memory, then our efforts have not been in vain. Emu. Senior Cfass l istory When we recall the feeling that We experienced as freshmen, we realize that our feeling at the present time differs from it very little. Then We were a bit frightened and nervous and wished that we were seniors. Well, we are seniors now. We are graduating. The word commencement has its origin in the verb to commence-to begin. Now we know why gradua- tion is called commencement. It is only the beginning, and We are scared. Some of us are going to enter college, some, the armed forces, and others are about to take their places in society and begin to Work. But whatever We do or wherever we go, we know we shall never be able to forget Whitehall, and we also know that Whitehall will never forget us. Perhaps it is a bit egotistical, but we of the Class of '45 like to think that our leaving Whitehall will create an emptiness which will require a good long time to refill. We are proud of Whitehall, and We hope Whitehall is proud of us. And so with a hearty thank you and or warm handshake, We take our leave of Whitehall High School. GEORGE B. As is the case with all new things, much time was needed to acquaint both the staff and its readers with a new l-li-Lites. As a result, we have not been able to develop our new plan to its greatest extent. We sincerely hope that our successors will achieve a goal that we had hoped to attain. That goal is to carry on, and raise Whitehall l-li-Lires to a level that will exceed the one ot the previous year until the Hi-Liies has reached as great a level as can ever be attained. he Bono! It was strikingly different from those of previous years in that the setting centered about a poor mining village in the Sierras. Receiving confidence only from his daughter, M'liss, Bummer Smith, the town loafer, is a constant target for jeer- ing because he believes his land will one day yield great wealth. Unknown to Smith, his brother in the East has died, leaving him an immense fortune. Two schemers successfully plan to kill Smith, pose as his relatives, and claim the for- tune due him. John Grey, the sweet- heart of M'liss, is accused of the murder, but M'liss clears his name and cleverly outwits the schemers. Packed with comedy and tense dram- atic situations, the play thrilled a large audience. 1 lk I Our second class play, a portrayal of the budding freshness of youth, was entitled Almost Eighteen. Eager to study for the radio, Eddie Barry learns from his father that he must earn his own tuition. To gain this end, he decides to submit an entry in an essay contest. Since one of the judges has a grudge against him, Eddie's uncle sug- gests he enter under his first two names. Showing an essay to his uncle, Eddie does not make it clear that it is not his own work, whereupon his uncle enters it. When Eddie finds out that he has won first prize, not for the paper he entered, but for the one he had studied for style, he becomes ill. The fraud is discovered and revealed to the entire town. Eddie is finally exonerated and wins first prize for his original work. Bringing many laughs from a thrilled audience, this comedy proved quite en- tertaining. We can truly say that we have con- cluded this year's play schedule very suc- cessfully. flirt lnterest in the beginning ot our still immature Art Club was aroused by participation of a number of students in a poster contest on Inflation during the spring of 1944. ln ths contest Veronica Ondush Won second prize in Lehigh County. i li 'Q t D ln the tall of l9414, there was a Safety Poster Contest in which some of our students participated. Having worked faithfully during the past year, the boys have accomplished many feats. Together with the girls' gym team, they put forth their best efforts to bring to the public the annual gym exhibition.
