Priscilla Wright Dust off the piano when Priss comes 'round for she will have music wherever she goes. The world would be a fine place if everyone were as friendly as she. Ronald Wan gerin Ronnie has captured the heart of everyone with his personality. Being a three letterman, working on the annual, and being elected to National Honor Society prove his ability. William Wentworth Nebraska came to us last year and became well-known to all right away. How many Fords in your future? Nancy Winslow Nancy with the Laugh- ing Face ought to be the theme song of this cute, petite girl. The choir will certainly miss its shortest member. jack Zafis Zeke can easily be rec- ognized for miles by his one and only walk. Through his savory jokes, he keeps all rocking with laughter. ORCHESTRA 4- Ji lf mm 5 -it SPORTS A massacre of the opponents and a complete victory for the football forty-niners who hold the proud title of Undefeated',! Likewise, in all fields of sports have the Bayites of nineteen forty-nine been tops. F , 1. N.. 1 R . f? ' -N -mi fl I h fx x . 'W Uh x Meredig for five -- Mustang mud baths! FOOTBALL Combining hard, clean play with its undying will to win, Coach Eddie Jankowski's Bay grid team fought its way through the first undefeated season in the history of the school. After last year's tie, the Bay set its sights on a clear crown. Eight returning lettermen were on hand to start the season and give our neighbors to the south a good lesson in football. Combining team spirit and excellent line play, they brought about Shorewood's first defeat by a Bay team in three years. The final count was a sweet 26 to 0 victory. Paced by Bill Kuehl, the Blue Dukes next disposed of a hard charging Hale eleven, 25 to 13. With Kuehl again leading the way and a stout Bay line in front of them, the Bulldogs were trampled 27 to 0. A 19 to 0 Homecoming victory over South Milwaukee followed. A breather against Juneau, and a smashing 46 to 7 victory over Cudahy followed. 'Tosa pressed the Bays to the limit in a rough and tumble contest in which Herb Meredig and Dick von Trebra paced the team to a 14 to 6 win. Waukesha and West Milwaukee were disposed of in the mud of a closing season, Where the weather made high scoring impossible. Co-captains Maclver and Meredig, along with Matras, Hickey, and Kuehl, were awarded all Suburban honors for their outstanding performances. With ten returning lettermen and three really great coaches, the Bays look forward to another successful grid season. FOOTBALL - 194 8 Opponents We They Shorewood , . . . , .26 0 W. A. Wauwatosa .,............................ 28 S9 The way I figure It 1 The Bay Bucketeers Hnished their season this year with a better than 57W average, winning 12 out of 21 games to tie for fourth place with Waukesha in the Suburban Conference. Sparked by such returning lettermen as Bill Kuehl, Herb Meredig, Jim Urdan, and Ron Wangeriri, they fought through their first four games with a two and two average, only to lose a heart-breaker to Waukesha, 26 to 25. The Bay then hit its stride and swept over West Milwaukee, Cudahy, West Allis Central, and West Allis Hale. On a Holiday trip to Wausau, the Bay cagers edged out Marshield but lost to Wausau in a listless battle. Shorewood, our traditional rival, was no match for the Bay in the non-conference game, but proved a formidable foe on its home court to the tune of S0 to 44. The team hung up a new scoring record in defeating the Cudahy Packers, 71 to 37, and trounced them again in the closing game of the conference. The Bays' best efforts in the Regionals were good enough to beat the Waukesha Blackshirts, but they could not dethrone last year's State Champions, the Red Raiders repeated their victory for the third straight time this season. Coach Kuehl will lose a major share of his squad this year through graduation, but will pin his hopes for a more successful season on a Championship junior Varsity squad. Cbarge! Ooh! Having only two seniors on the squad and only one returning letterman, they paced themselves to a third in the Lake Shore Meet, a fourth in the Suburban, and a fourteenth in the State. Led by letterman Bill Knop and other such notables as Dick Berndt, Dick Weisman, Dick Hill and Clark Wangerin, they showed what could be done with constant effort and hard work. Next year, under the expert guidance of Coach Rudiger, and with Dick Weisman and Dick Berndt as co-captains, Local 8l8 may well be a team to reckon with. VOLLEYBALL The prospects for the 1949 Volleyball team look very bright, for with three return- ing lettermen and five or six other promising newcomers, the Bay ought to measure up to the best in the Suburban conference. The boys are getting hard workouts under their new coach, Marshall Rieboltg he seems confident that they will make a strong showing in the keen competitive field they will enter. The returning lettermen include: Paul Hickey, leading spiker on the ,48 team, Allan Lewis, setting for Paul, and Bill Tellkamp, another spiker of merit. Other boys are: Carlos Henningfeld, jim Kassner, Dick Grimm, Russ Dopke, Al Dietzel, and Fred North. Together, they should prove worthy competitors for the Suburban Crown. Wauwatosa ........,..................... 28 S9 The way I figure It - The Bay Bucketeers finished their season this year with a better than S711 average, winning 12 out of 21 games to tie for fourth place with Waukesha in the Suburban Conference. Sparked by such returning lettermen as Bill Kuehl, Herb Meredig, Jim Urdan, and Ron Wangerin, they fought through their first four games with a two and two average, only to lose a heart-breaker to Waukesha, 26 to 25. The Bay then hit its stride and swept over West Milwaukee, Cudahy, West Allis Central, and West Allis Hale. On a Holiday trip to Wausau, the Bay cagers edged out Marshheld but lost to Wausau in a listless battle. TT Cbarge! Coach Wally Zastrow,s returning lettermen will be led by Dan Baumle, '48 state high school singles champion, and Dick Schwartz- beck, mainstay on the number two doubles team. Outstanding underclassmen striving for the team are juniors Ralph Tippet,Ted Hart- shorn, and Phil Frenz. With keen intersquad competition and steady improvement, the netters may develop into a winning outfit. GOLF This spring the Bay golfers are confident of a strong bid for the Suburban Title. Led by such returning lettermen as Don Miller, Russ Dopke, and Jack Williams, the Bay squad promises to break Pan Last year's linksters were hampered by sickness, but barring the same fate this year, Coach G0ther's squad will be tough to beckon with. The Bay has never won a state or suburban crown, but with a little help from Lady Luck, this may well be their year. GOLF FIRST ROW: R. Dopke, Williams, L. Ness, R. Grimm, J. Urdan. SECOND ROW: R. Crowley Now, in order to score a Birdie - THIRD ROW' W Faude T Nigbor TRACK Coach Wangerin, whose Bay tracksters have copped about every title available for the last twelve years, may find the going tougher this coming season. Last year, under the expert guidance of coaches Wangerin, Caulkett, Rietz, Rudiger, and jankowski, the Bays, hard pressed by 'Tosa, continued their winning streak. This year, however, the squad, including ten lettermen, may run into difficulties. Among last year's outstanding memories are jim Englander's record-breaking hurdling and the lightning speed of Walt Mars in the half. These boys, along with jim O'Brien, Fred Reisweber, Bill Butler and company, will be sorely missed. Filling in these gaps, however, will be State Champion Skip Matras, and john Maclverg co-captain Dick von Trebra in the pole vault, Fred North, joe Plater, and Jim Masker in the hurdles, Buzz Wilson in the high jump, Dick Berndt and co-captain Bill Knop in the distances, and Ron Wangerin and Allan Lewis in the 440.
